5/2
Fibresand debutante whose last win came 11 runs ago and as yet not turned around by this sprint specialist stable. Headgear (hood) worn last four starts is now dispensed with; will do well to beat Fibresand sprint specialists dropping back to 5f.

First runner for the trainer who also makes his Fibresand debut having drawn a blank last year in seven starts (showed some mild promise penultimate outing). Has dropped rapidly in the weights; chance if he takes to this unique surface.

Record off breaks such as this is uninspiring and despite being well weighted he's likely to need this first outing of the season. Has sampled the Fibresand once before (placed here as a juvenile); best watched on this occasion.

Not the most consistent of characters on turf but looks more at home on Fibresand; confirmed the promise of his return run when winning over C&D last time. Warrior's Valley who he defeated has won again since; still on a fair mark, up 3lb.

Fibresand debut with a hood added for the first time; back down to 5f (2-18 at the trip). Below form of late though and needs to find some form having not won in over a year; remains 6lb above last winning mark.

Honey Gg106
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-7| J: C J MacRedmond(7)| T: D Carroll| OR:  60| BF| CD
8/1
C&D winner who is 3lb higher than when winning here in November; followed up with a creditable run finishing second to a course specialist. May lack the match fitness of some of these but still on a good mark if ready to go after an absence.

Oriental Relationb72
Age: 8|  Weight: 9-6| J: Lewis Edmunds| T: J Balding| OR:  59| CDWS
20/1
Dual C&D winner who returns from a breathing operation having not won since 2017. Well weighted on his old form but there must be some doubt as to the whether he retains that ability; blinkers now the headgear of choice.

Yet to taste success on Fibresand (placed twice) but does arrive on the back of a Tapeta win (improved form off a lowly mark). That win came in a basement (0-50) grade and this will prove tougher off a 7lb higher mark on a different surface.

Red Stripesb12

14/1
Course winner (1-10) whose latest win came at Chelmsford in February over this trip off a 4lb lower mark. Well backed and back to form returned to that same venue last time off this mark; should remain competitive here.

Kath's Boyb15
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-0| J: Elisha Whittington(7)| T: A W Carroll| OR:  53| CD
6/1
Hardly the most consistent prior to his last two starts which have produced a (surprise) win over C&D and a decent third to back up that victory off a 7lb higher mark. Blinkers and a switch to this surface looking to be the key; chance again.

Forecasts

Becker (5/2), Twentysvnthlancers (9/2), Kath's Boy (6/1), Furni Factors (7/1), Honey Gg (8/1), Scuzeme (12/1), Independence Day (12/1), Red Stripes (14/1), Lexington Place (16/1), Oriental Relation (20/1)

Verdict

TWENTYSVNTHLANCERS looks a better model on the Fibresand than he does on turf and although he may have been a little fortunate to win here last time that form has already been franked and he’s only 3lb higher here. Honey GG is a threat on her form on this surface if she’s ready to go after three months away from the track whilst Kath’s Boy appears to have found his feet on this surface (unusual for one by Bushranger). Red Stripes also enters the equation and the market will prove a useful guide to former jockey Phil Makin’s first runner as a trainer Scuzeme who is well weighted on his old form if he takes to Fibresand.
  1. Twentysvnthlancers

  3. Red Stripes
