Silk Or Scarlet30
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-13| J: R D Day| T: N W Alexander| OR:  101
7/1
Raced prominently until weakening late on his seasonal reappearance (2m6f+) at Kelso; remains unexposed in handicap company just 2lb higher than when finishing a close second at Perth (2m4f, soft) in April; non-runner at Newcastle on Saturday.

Horse silk
Karamoko130
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-13| J: Danny McMenamin(8)| T: N G Richards| OR:  101
3/1
Off the track since late August when finishing third at Bangor (2m3f+, good) - also has an earlier placed effort at this track (2m) on his CV; still relatively unexposed in handicap company, with this riders 8lb claim a bonus.
3
Horse silk
Carlingford Prince343
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-12| J: Harry Reed| T: T Reed| OR:  100
33/1
Very lightly-raced for his age, so has presumably had plenty of problems; well beaten in novice company (2m6f, soft) at Newcastle almost 12 months ago and off again since; handicap debut.
4
Horse silk
Katalystic30
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: S Mulqueen(3)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  98
10/1
Stablemate of Blaydon; six-race hurdles maiden who made no real impression on the leaders when finishing in mid-pack at Kelso (2m6f+) in December; possibly sharper for that outing.
5
Horse silk
Blaydonp37
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-8| J: Blair Campbell(3)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  96
8/1
Stablemate of Katalystic; placed on debut in a Kelso bumper (well beaten) in February 2018 and essentially modest over hurdles since (0-3). However, could fare better now sent handicapping, albeit this opening mark of 96 isn't overly generous.
6
Horse silk
Padsp126
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-7| J: Steven Fox| T: D Bourke| OR:  95
40/1
Back under rules with a low-key performance in a poor race at Newcastle (2m4f+) last month; 0-22, so difficult to envisage the application of first-time cheekpieces making a massive difference to his overall chance.
7
Horse silk
Up Helly Aa Kingt40
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Lorcan Murtagh| T: N W Alexander| OR:  95
12/1
Stablemate of Silk Or Scarlet; fairly disappointing in his previous visits to this track. However, has slipped steadily down the weights, and with it still being early days post wind surgery probably deserves more time.
8
Horse silk
Cyprus Avenuet155
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-2| J: Bruce Lynn(3)| T: I A Duncan| OR:  90WS
20/1
From a dam who was a winning chaser (2m-2m4f), but she has appeared light on ability in eight starts thus far; all hopes pinned on wind surgery and the newly applied tongue-tie.
9
Horse silk
Boris Boruh13
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: Dillon Maxwell(7)| T: Mrs S Dawson| OR:  89
9/1
18-race maiden with bits and pieces of fair hurdles form in Ireland (2m4f-2m6f); in contention when falling four out at Navan (2m6f, good) on his penultimate start; consult the market for advice.
10
Horse silk
Solway Lark17
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: Ross Turner(3)| T: Miss L Harrison| OR:  88
40/1
13-race maiden who has kept increasingly poor form of late; can't be considered on the strength of either of his December efforts at Haydock (2m7f) or Newcastle (2m).
11
Horse silk
Valkenburgp12
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-9| J: Billy Garritty(7)| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  96
10/1
Flat winner (1m4f) who started off reasonably well over hurdles before somewhat losing his way; freshened up on the AW since and now heads off into handicap company for the first-time from a reasonable enough opening mark.
13
Horse silk
Magic Of Milanp1,t13
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-5| J: Ross Chapman| T: S England| OR:  79
11/4
Eight-race maiden who has shown improved form since returning to action this season; by Milan, she's essentially slow, so should be suited by stepping up in trip and off a light weight in first-time cheekpieces merits consideration.

Forecasts

Magic Of Milan (11/4), Karamoko (3/1), Silk Or Scarlet (7/1), Blaydon (8/1), Airdrigh (8/1), Boris Boru (9/1), Katalystic (10/1), Valkenburg (10/1), Up Helly Aa King (12/1), Cyprus Avenue (20/1), Carlingford Prince (33/1), Pads (40/1), Solway Lark (40/1)

Verdict

Not a deep race in terms of quality. Valkenburg is a keen sort who could be reasonably treated on his handicap debut, although one would be slightly cautious about him at present given his last couple of fairly modest efforts over timber. Magic Of Milan is no star but will more than likely win a race somewhere eventually over this kind of trip, whilst Silk Or Scarlet must enter the equation after side-stepping an engagement at Newcastle on Saturday (ground). However, the tentative vote is for the unexposed KARAMOKO with the 8lb claim of Danny McMenamin the decisive factor in making that decision.
  1. Karamoko
  2. Silk Or Scarlet
  3. Magic Of Milan
