Only member of this field who hasn't run on this surface before but by a sire (Pivotal) who has a 20% strike-rate here. A winner over sprint trips on turf earlier in the year off similar marks he could make an impression if he handles the surface.
Won in this grade and off this mark on his Fibresand debut in the summer looking as good as he ever has. Not won since then but has generally run well on his AW starts although he was below form over C&D last time; left poorly placed, on decent mark.
Given a chance by the assessor he ran well on his C&D debut last time looking at home on the from a less than ideal draw (same stall today in a smaller field). The mark he's on still gives him a chance; three of these rivals having ground to make up.
A three-time C&D winner he's run twice over C&D after a break and in truth neither run has been satisfactory in terms of how they have worked out for him; without usual visor first time. Given his Fibresand form he can't be written off.
Useful handicapper (winner on turf and AW) who shaped well on his C&D debut to finish 5th coming from a long way off the pace (not ideal here over 5f). Not beaten far and has every chance of reversing the form with Ornate off this mark.
Given a shot for the first-time over C&D recently she was left poorly placed although she appeared to travel well enough despite not racing prominently as usual. Would be of more interest under her usual tactics; may find this a shade too tough.
Wolverhampton is much more his track (5-14 there) and has never looked as good on this surface (585). Going through a good spell at the moment won two of his last three but never won off a mark this high and the surface is a question mark.
Has two C&D wins to his name but has only run respectably since his wind operation (twice over C&D). Comes from a yard that are in good form at the moment although he's never won in this grade and may find this a little too tough.
Forecasts
Jashma (11/4), Ornate (3/1), Something Lucky (7/1), Moonraker (15/2), Landing Night (8/1), Watchable (9/1), You're Cool (9/1), Equimou (16/1)
This is a rerun of a couple of recent sprints here with Ornate really taking the eye last time with three of today’s rivals behind him running a fine race from an awkward draw and this former Group 3 performer now resides on a decent mark. One of those beaten by David Griffith’s charge last time out was JASHMA who wasn’t seen to best effect last time and he may be able to reverse the form having his 2nd try on Fibresand. The Mick Appleby pair Moonraker and Something Lucky can’t be ruled out although on their recent form they do have a little find; both are though C&D winners. Dual C&D winner Landing Night must also be a threat having travelled well into a race last time.
- Jashma
- Ornate
- Landing Night
