In good form but shot up the ratings as a result. On the same mark as when a good third at Kempton last time out but starting to look like the handicapper has his measure. Up in trip again here.

Debut run for his current yard was a sound piece of from and the gelding has to be considered if his latest start can be forgiven. Well worth a betting check.

Kentford Heiress19
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-8| J: Kevin Jones(3)| T: J W Mullins| OR:  118| D
28/1
Has been making the running of late but can also settle off the pace. Mixed form of late and still 2lb above her highest previous winning mark. Tough test at the weights.

Won at Bangor, in a first-time tongue tie in modest company, back in June but was pulled up when already tailed off at Uttoxeter on his return to action last month. Cheekpieces added today but plenty to prove.

Just 1lb above his last winning mark over fences and noteworthy that he's being kept busy. Cheekpieces applied for the first time can also help his concentration. Worth a betting check.

Joueur Bresilien13
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-8| J: James Bowen| T: Miss R Curtis| OR:  118

Making good progress and confidence was boosted by a win over hurdles on his penultimate start. (Latest run at Doncaster can be forgiven as he slipped up on the bend at an early stage.) Up in trip here though and stamina to prove.

Horse silk
Waltt1,v125
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-8| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  118| BF
12/1
0-8 over fences so far and has gone the wrong way since finishing a clear second at Ffos Las in May. Needs to better recent form but has been given a chance at the weights.
8
Horse silk
Marble Moon36
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-7| J: Conor Ring(3)| T: Evan Williams| OR:  117
20/1
Mopped up four wins over hurdles in good style earlier in the year but form hit the buffers last time out. Switching to fences looks a logical step but the gelding lacks the experience held by his rivals.
9
Horse silk
Ballyknock Cloudp,t44
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Nick Scholfield| T: Jack Barber| OR:  117
14/1
Won three point-to-points before joining his current yard but yet to really capture the imagination. Had wind surgery prior to his latest start but was never a factor and looks one to be wary of here.
10
Horse silk
Mahlermadet117
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: Wayne Hutchinson| T: A King| OR:  115| BF
9/1
Has ability but starting to become frustrating over timber. Worth a try in a race of this nature but has a lot to learn and may need more time.
11
Horse silk
Sackett24
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: Bryony Frost| T: N B King| OR:  114| D
7/1
Won a point-to-point last year and held his form well over hurdles this term. Interesting contender and has already won for today's rider. Shortlisted.
12
Horse silk
Polymath22
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-11| J: Jack Sherwood(3)| T: D Faulkner| OR:  107
33/1
Winner of a couple of point-to-points and should have no issues with the trip; but hasn't made much progress since joining his current yard.

Horse silk
Heluvagoodt29
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-8| J: Conor Shoemark| T: V R A Dartnall| OR:  104
9/1
Improved since wind surgery and gained a deserved victory last time out. Idled near the finish on that occasion but created a favourable impression nonetheless. Up 4lb but has the scope to figure at this level.
14
Horse silk
Hugos Horsep1,t17
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-3| J: Bryan Carver(7)| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  98
16/1
Carries famous colours and represents a top yard but yet to justify the lofty price tag of £70,000 paid out for him as a three-year-old. A chaser in the making, the gelding may need more experience.

Forecasts

Christmas In April (11/4), Agamemmon (13/2), Sackett (7/1), Joueur Bresilien (8/1), Mahlermade (9/1), Heluvagood (9/1), Roll The Dough (10/1), Walt (12/1), Ballyknock Cloud (14/1), Hugos Horse (16/1), Marble Moon (20/1), Frozen Flame (25/1), Kentford Heiress (28/1), Polymath (33/1)

Verdict

A tough one to call as all of these are still learning their trade. The likes of: Mahlermade, Hugos Horse and Sackett all look capable of paying their way and are worth a check in the betting. However, HELUVAGOOD has thrived since being treated with a wind operation and created the impression that he's got plenty more to offer after winning at Exeter last month. A 4lb higher mark isn't insurmountable in this company.
  1. Heluvagood
  2. Mahlermade
  3. Sackett
