8/1
C&D winner who enjoyed a hugely productive spell between January and April (222211) but hasn't returned at the same level of form since a summer break; the drop into a claimer could potentially rejuvenate.

4-28 on the AW, with all of those wins coming at Dunstall Park Wolverhampton (1m+ to 1m1f+); off for 51 days since a midfield finish at Nottingham in October.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-4| J: Ben Robinson(3)| T: Ollie Pears| OR:  67
10/1
Finished one place and 1L in front of today's rival Roman De Brut when runner-up at Beverley (1m+, good to soft) in September; quieter since (0-1 on AW) and possibly strongest over 7f.

Modest fourth behind stablemate Mujassam (Assimile second) in a weak 1m Chelmsford claimer 17 days ago; this stiffer track should suit but ideally requires a longer trip (1m2f).

Broken Wings9
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: J Fanning| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  60
12/1
13-race maiden; weakened after racing prominently but still able to find the frame in a Class 5 fillies' contest at Wolverhampton in October; lesser efforts since and stamina reserves rate as a major concern over 1m.

11/4
Managed to get the job done under Josephine Gordon in back-to-back 7f Leicester sellers/claimers last month; solid run over 1m2f at Redcar latest (second) and found another decent opportunity by Gay Kelleway (4-26; 15% at Newcastle).

Hasn't won since February 2017 (when rated 77) but fully entitled to have needed the return to action at Southwell 18 days ago (first start since May); that said, remains difficult to recommend.

Assimilep15
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke| OR:  68| D
7/2
Runner-up to Mujassam in a weak 1m Chelmsford claimer (Sunglider fourth) before recording a second win on Fibresand at Southwell (Class 6) a couple of days later, beating Fieldsman by a neck; obvious contender.

Age: 8|  Weight: 9-1| J: Faye McManoman(7)| T: Olly Williams| OR:  65
28/1
Talented horse on his day with a more than respectable strike-rate (10-47). Three-time Wolverhampton winner in early 2018 (1m1f+); increasingly sluggish since returning to action from a break, so needs the newly applied blinkers to provide a spark.

Full Disclosurev19
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-13| J: L Morris| T: I Jardine| OR:  49| BF| D
40/1
Winner at Naas in June (1m, good to firm) and still early days for Carrutherstown handler Iain Jardine; fitted with a visor for the first-time but highly unlikely to be competitive at these disadvantageous weights.

Forecasts

Lady Alavesa (11/4), Roman De Brut (7/2), Assimile (7/2), Street Poet (8/1), Placebo Effect (10/1), Broken Wings (12/1), Sunglider (14/1), Count Montecristo (25/1), Tha'ir (28/1), Full Disclosure (40/1)

Verdict

Far from prime betting material with nine of the ten declared runners separated by about 6lb in the handicap. Gay Kelleway has a reasonable strike-rate at this track (15%) and she's represented by the in-form 3yo filly Lady Alavesa who should remain competitive. However, the vote (in a no-play race) goes to the Karl Burke-trained ASSIMILE. He's probably better suited by the Fibresand at Southwell (does handle Tapeta), but there can be no disputing that his performances have generally improved post wind surgery.
  1. Assimile
  2. Lady Alavesa
  3. Placebo Effect
