Hooded for his seasonal reappearance having left Kerry Lee for £15,000 in June; fully capable of winning this race off top-weight based upon his form of old; 2m on rain-softened ground looks ideal; chance.
Consistent as a novice during the 2017/18 campaign; headed on the run-in after making a bold bid to score on handicap debut at Carlisle (2m4f) last month; raised 3lb since.
Infrequent winner nowadays (4-35 over hurdles) but fully entitled to have needed the run at Wetherby (2m, good) 19-days ago; that said, others are preferred.
Backed up his soft ground October C&D win (well supported) when going in again at Carlisle (2m1f, good) next time; 5lb higher in the weights seeking a hat-trick; should be there or thereabouts at the finish.
3-6 over hurdles, but hasn't seen any action since winning narrowly at Sedgefield (2m1f, good) in April 2017; handicapper has given him every assistance (mark left unchanged).
With David Dennis when recording a second hurdles win at Exeter in October 2016 (2m1f novice); dismal on his next start a couple of weeks later and absent since; worthy of market inspection on return for an in-form handler.
Game mare who has historically thrived on racing at Hexham; slipping back down the weights to a more manageable handicap mark and although off the track for nine-months should never be dismissed lightly around here.
Left Joseph O'Brien for £6,500 in November 2017, but brought the win-less sequence over hurdles to six (0-2 for current connections) at Kelso last month; most unlikely despite a 5lb ease in the weights.
33/1 Flat winner for Keith Dalgleish at Thirsk in April; sold for £15,000 in September 2018 and heads off back over hurdles (1-6) for a trainer who saddled a shock 80/1 winner at Newcastle on Friday.
Five-time hurdles winner, including on heavy ground at Carlisle (2m1f) in February; 3lb above that last winning mark and should come on for a recent run (admittedly with plenty to do in order to reverse placings with Take A Break).
Very keen front runner (tearaway); the application of a hood has made little difference to his temperament; 0-9 over hurdles, and won't fulfil his obvious potential until curbing those enthusiastic traits; treat with immense caution.
Bought for £8,000 after winning a May C&D seller for Brian Ellison (good); essentially disappointing on seasonal return at Carlisle; switched back to Hexham from a slowly easing handicap mark, and wearing a newly applied tongue-tie.
Runner-up at Carlisle (2m1f) in October, when vainly chasing home the handicap 'good thing' Zabeel Star; a similar story over C&D latest when he really ought to have beaten Little Pippin; 5lb higher; holds solid claims off a lightweight.
Mare who was having her first run over hurdles for in excess of two years when finishing a never in contention ninth of 14 to Weather Front over C&D (novices) earlier this month; market helpful on handicap debut.
Forecasts
Teescomponents Lad (12/5), Take A Break (3/1), Saint Freule (7/1), Sleepy Haven (15/2), Minella Fiveo (15/2), Lostock Hall (11/1), Gassin Golf (14/1), Newstart (22/1), Pistol (25/1), The Character (33/1), Wishing Well (33/1), Felix Mendelssohn (40/1), Beyondtemptation (40/1), Starplex (50/1)
10lb claimer Kane Yeoman arguably showed his inexperience in the saddle when the smooth travelling MINELLA FIVEO was edged out by Little Pippin over C&D (good) 12-days ago. The handicapper clearly thought that the Sue Smith-trained gelding was an unlucky loser (has raised him 5lb subsequently), but he remains of significant interest today with just 10st 1lb on his back. He's fancied to capitalise upon that lightweight against some in-form rivals which include the hat-trick seeking Take A Break.
- Minella Fiveo
- Take A Break
- Gassin Golf
