Gelded son of Group 2 winner Universal out of a 7f winner. Yard 0-24 with 2-y-o newcomers this year, and others more appealing on paper.

Excelebration half-brother to smart winner up to 1½m Chalnetta and 5f-7f winner Johnnycometomamie. Yard 1-66 with juvenile debutants in last two years, and passed over for that reason.

(4)
Horse silk
200/1
Full-brother to connections' 1m4f-1m6f winner Praeceps, and looks a long-term project if anything based on two poor efforts to date. Cheekpieces tried now.

Horse silk
3/1
War Front half-brother to US Grade 2/Singapore Cup winner Parranda (stayed 1¼m) out of a US 1m½f winner. Price almost doubled to $1,100,000 last year, and yard can ready one, so needs respect on racecourse bow.

Horse silk
50/1
Bated Breath half-brother to useful 2-y-o 6f winner Phijee and 7f-1½m winner White Shaheen out of a half-sister to Group 3 Foundation Stakes winner Alkaadhem. Pedigree reads well, but fetched just 3,000 gns as a yearling, which sets alarm bells off.
Son of Garswood who shaped well when 2½L third of 9 to Flashcard in a 6f novice at Salisbury on debut, keeping on as if in need of a stiffer test. Not ruled out now.

Horse silk
13/8
By Dansili out of an unraced sister to Group 1 winner Misty For Me. Showed promise on debut over 1m at Sandown, and confirmed that when sixth in a strong Newmarket maiden last time behind Kick On. Sets the standard for others to match.

Horse silk
25/1
Better effort so far when sixth at Chelmsford (7f) last time, and will do better in the fullness of time, but doubt he will make much impact this side of handicaps.

(11)
Horse silk
16/1
Nice enough pedigree, being half-brother to Irish 6f Group 2 and 7f two-year-old winner Probably. Needed the run when down the field in a 1m novice at Leicester on debut, and looks one for the longer term.

Forecasts

Mubariz (13/8), Funny Man (11/4), Cadre Du Noir (3/1), Metaphor (11/2), Garrison Commander (15/2), Wedding Blue (16/1), Beeswax (20/1), Red Phoenix (25/1), Arizona Glory (25/1), Catch My Breath (50/1), Blame It On Sally (200/1)

Verdict

MUBARIZ sets the standard here, and ought to go close after contesting a very warm maiden at Newmarket last time. Cadre du Noir cost a small fortune last year, and that price-tag alone means he's of interest, as is another well-bred newcomer in the shape of Funny Man.
  1. Mubariz
  2. Cadre Du Noir
  3. Funny Man
