Last win came last October off 7lb higher on heavy ground and this is very much his time of year. Ran well off a sedate pace over two miles last time and has to be respected off this mark.
Handles these conditions well and was racing well until seemingly unsuited by longer trip here last start. Needs some riding along in patches but could be involved again off current mark.
Yet to place in three bumper and three Flat starts but was much better when fourth back at a mile last time. Needs to find further progress again on handicap debut back over a longer trip.
Won three in a row in 2016 and not disgraced in three starts last year. Presumably has had her problems and was well held when returning from a 447-day absence. On last winning mark but hard to recommend.
Looked to enjoy an easier surface when second at Brighton and shaped as though this stiffer test would suit. Only moderate form but improvement likely.
Former French performer who could prove to be a bargain buy at 2,500 gns after improving with each of his three runs for new stable. Won impressively on heavy ground last time and more to offer despite 6lb penalty.
Wind surgery had desired effect when showing big improvement to win on the AW on handicap debut. Stayed on strongly in a good race and 4lb rise shouldn't be a problem providing he handles the ground.
Six-race maiden who showed promise in early summer but not lived up to the billing in four starts since being gelded; plenty to prove at the present time.
Races off a much reduced mark since last win in July 2016 and was much better when just worn down late on the AW. Likes this ground but probably vulnerable in this grade.
11-race maiden who shaped well enough in two starts on soft ground for new stable before being as good as pulled up on quick ground. This surface will be more suitable but plenty to find to be in the mix.
Won on debut for this yard at Nottingham but his efforts in three starts since have been below par. Looks vulnerable here and may want quicker ground.
Beaten favourite here on her last two starts but is suited by the track and just 1lb higher than when winning on seasonal debut. Unsuited by this ground in the past and tends to like it lightning fast.
Improved when winning on stable debut and well backed favourite when one place behind Zamperini at Wolverhampton. Only one previous start on turf and gets to race off 4lb lower than AW mark.
Forecasts
Zamperini (7/2), Thistimelastyear (9/2), Ascot Day (13/2), Institution (13/2), Reveleon (8/1), Le Maharajah (10/1), Pink Phantom (12/1), Becca Campbell (14/1), Tralee Hills (16/1), Whinging Willie (16/1), Rosie Royale (25/1), Delirium (28/1), Tyrolean (33/1)
Over a half furlong shorter Thistimelastyear is taken to reverse form with Zamperini and it will be interesting to see if there is market support for her once again on what is unproven ground. Pink Phantom also has a query on this surface but she was very impressive when showing big progress to win last time. In contrast we know Ascot Day loves to get his toe in and also showed big improvement on his first win on these shores. Institution and Becca Campbell are respected but this is the time to catch WHINGING WILLIE at his best and he really looked as though he was coming to the boil last time.
- Whinging Willie
- Ascot Day
- Pink Phantom
