Has posted some laboured efforts (including over C&D) since winning here off a 2lb lower mark in July (beat Aguerooo by a commanding 1½L); risky, but equally holds a solid chance on peak form.

Twice a winner on turf during the summer (6f, good to firm), and probably isn't impossibly handicapped despite rising in the weights; useful 3lb claimer booked and has winning C&D juvenile form (for Kristin Stubbs).

Beaten just over ½L (third) over 5f on the July Course at Newmarket in August, and has dropped a further 5lb in the weights. Showed plenty of speed, but failed to last home over 7f latest; drop in trip helpful; 2-13 on AW.

Half-brother to the French 1m-1m2f winner Karynia; shown promise in three starts in novice races (5f-6f), including when third to Alba Del Sole (runner-up Crash Helmet has won since) at Kempton latest; various aids newly applied for handicap bow.

Unexposed on the AW (0-2); best suited by 6f with cut on turf, and is 3lb higher than when beating Diamond Lady by ¾L at Nottingham (6f, good) in August.

Put in his place by today's rival Misty Spirit over C&D in July, but much like that winner, he's struggled to replicate that level of form since, falling back 7lb in the weights; still couldn't be dismissed despite the wide draw.

In good form when last seen on an artificial surface earlier this year (6f Wolverhampton winner off a 4lb lower mark in March); trainer has saddled a few winners of late, and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa is a major plus.

0-4 in Ireland for W. McCreery (1m-1m2f), but this half-sister to 11 winners was sold for 55,000gns at Newmarket in July; found a weak race and drops noticeably in trip for stable debut; market should provide the clues.

Juvenile debut winner for Simon Crisford at Wolverhampton (6f novice) in May 2017, but has back-peddled quickly since; sold for £15,000 in November 2017, and hasn't beaten a rival in two starts for this trainer (5f-6f) off a 12 month break.

Forecasts

Compas Scoobie (13/8), Chilton Foliat (4/1), The Lacemaker (5/1), Penny Pot Lane (6/1), Roys Dream (10/1), Aguerooo (12/1), Maximum Power (14/1), First Excel (25/1), Misty Spirit (33/1), Awsaaf (40/1)

Verdict

Not a race in which to seek to become overly involved with plenty of 'ifs' and 'buts' and also the odd complete unknown commodity thrown into the mix. Compas Scoobie is likely to be set alight early by Cameron Noble from a handy draw, and should appreciate dropping back in trip from Newmarket (7f) latest. Misty Spirit is respected and a player if able to recapture her peak form (beat Aguerooo over C&D in July), whilst Nottingham winner Penny Pot Lane should make the shortlist as an unexposed AW horse. However, we'll take a chance on the dropped in trip CHILTON FOLIAT who cost Charlie Fellowes 55,000gns out of Willie McCreery's stable in Ireland.
  1. Chilton Foliat
  2. Compas Scoobie
  3. Penny Pot Lane
