Racing from a career low mark and most definitely has shown signs of a revival in cheekpieces of late; just failed to reel in Fair Selene at Kempton (1m) latest; Rab Havlin retains the ride; major player.

2/1
Six-race maiden who seems suited to wearing cheekpieces; headed on the post when beaten by a nose by Roof Garden over 1m here in August; first attempt at 1m2f (sister to the 1m-1m2f winner Auspicion).

11/1
Game head winner in first-time blinkers over C&D in August (Class 6); found a similar race in which to seek to follow up off a 61 day break; handicapper hasn't been harsh (1lb rise).

Far from consistent, winning just once since his Irish days, and that was when wearing blinkers at Kempton (1m4f) in March; no show at Wolverhampton latest.

Lily Ash15
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-3| J: Nicola Currie(3)| T: M Murphy| OR:  56
10/1
Proved herself as a likeable mare at a lowly level, winning 1m+ turf races at Yarmouth (good) and Beverley (good) since late July; has to prove her stamina over this trip (and has work to do with Lulu Star).

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: Gabriele Malune(5)| T: I Furtado| OR:  60
16/1
1m Dundalk winner for Joseph O'Brien in March, but low-key on both starts for Ivan Furtado (well behind Squire latest), and has a plethora of aids (namely hood and tongue-tie) newly applied.

Broke her duck at the 11th attempt when an all out winner over C&D last month (Lily Ash sixth); raised 4lb, with Shelley Birkett (claims 3lb) taking over in the saddle.

Tiara Gold15
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: David Probert| T: Rae Guest| OR:  51
33/1
Five-race maiden; fallen 8lb in the weights since introduced to handicapping, but must get over her tendency to blow the start before she's likely to make any real positive impression.

Grasmere14
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-4| J: Darragh Keenan(5)| T: A Bailey| OR:  47
8/1
11-race maiden; staying on at the same pace when finishing 2L fourth of 13 to Blyton Lass over C&D last month; more required.

Townie Macb116
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-4| J: Charlie Bennett| T: H Morrison| OR:  47
25/1
Nine-race maiden; twice placed on quick ground at Brighton (1m-1m2f) during the summer, but hasn't kicked on positively since, hence the application of blinkers tonight.

Sheila Rose17
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-3| J: L Morris| T: D J Coakley| OR:  45
20/1
Rip Van Winkle filly; early days, but evidently is no great shakes; never able to get competitive on handicap debut at Kempton (1m4f) last month on her first start beyond 7f; dropped 4lb since (and in trip).

Forecasts

Spiced (2/1), Squire (7/2), Lulu Star (6/1), Grasmere (8/1), Lily Ash (10/1), New Street (11/1), Tagle (16/1), Sheila Rose (20/1), Townie Mac (25/1), Udogo (33/1), Tiara Gold (33/1)

Verdict

More competitive than Division 1 with three recent winners (New Street, Lily Ash and Lulu Star) in the line up alongside the William Haggas-trained filly Spiced who should break her duck in this company eventually (stamina must be proven over 1m2f). However, the most interesting runner is the top-weight SQUIRE. Cheekpieces appear to have led to an upturn in fortunes (beaten a nose by Fair Selene at Kempton latest), and with regular rider Rab Havlin retaining the mount, he's expected to be able to capitalise from a career low mark now upped in trip.
  1. Squire
  2. Spiced
  3. Lulu Star
