Veteran who took advantage of a career-low mark to win over this C&D. Up 5lb but was rated over 100 in his heyday and remains well treated. Should go well again.

Set stiff tasks in Listed company on two starts from nearly a year off. Pulled too hard back in handicap company on good ground but these conditions much more suitable. On a good mark and respected.

On a losing run dating back to August of last year despite a number of near misses. Can be competitive again but a bit to find with Intransigent and needs everything to drop right.

Won a Class 3 handicap at Catterick in June and will appreciate this drop in grade, however needs to lift from three disappointing runs.

Yet to add to maiden success and has edged up in the handicap with three seconds in a row. Short of room but looked held last time and others look better handicapped.

Formerly trained by David Barron he won on his third start for his new stable at Beverley. More required with a 6lb penalty in a stronger grade.

Just 2lb higher than last winning mart at Kempton in July and caught the eye when having to sit and suffer before getting out too late over 6f here. Stays this trip but all four career wins and best form is at shorter.

Has hit form on his favoured soft ground and won over a half furlong further here last time. Can be involved but will find this tougher off 3lb higher and from wide draw.

Missed the break behind Intense Style here but made up for it when making all at Brighton. Drawn to attack but this is a much stronger race and up 6lb.

Pulled too hard when a disappointing favourite last time and yet to place in two previous tries at this track. Will need plenty of breaks from wide draw.

Has enjoyed a superb year for his new trainer getting into the money nine times from 10 starts, including three wins. Vulnerable to a better handicapped rival off his current mark but remains incredibly consistent.

Forecasts

Intransigent (2/1), Magical Effect (9/2), Twin Appeal (6/1), Shawaamekh (8/1), Intense Style (9/1), Ptarmigan Ridge (10/1), Bahamadam (11/1), Baltic Prince (12/1), Our Charlie Brown (12/1), Jacob Black (14/1), Madrinho (16/1), Scofflaw (25/1)

Verdict

A typically wide-open contest where it may pay to take a chance with the handicap debutante SHAWAAMEKH. For a four-year-old he remains very lightly-raced and showed big improvement with a demolition job over this trip last start. Intransigent represents an in-form stable and has to be respected off the back of his latest win. Bahamadam can be involved in her favoured conditions while the admirable Jacob Black should be thereabouts again.
  1. Shawaamekh
  2. Intransigent
  3. Jacob Black
