Started the season positively with a narrow third in a valuable Newbury handicap. Couldn't land a blow next as favourite for Victoria Cup and tailed-off last in Royal Hunt Cup. Better next when second in a conditions event but more needed.

Raced exclusively over 7f this season winning once, on this course back in May. Won over 1m and 1m2f earlier in career so trip not necessarily an issue but ran poorly latest when last at Leicester so must bounce back.

Won at Nottingham (1m2f) in July but lesser efforts the next twice at Ripon and latest at Doncaster when last of ten. Won off higher mark than this last season but recent form some way short of that.

Lost his way for Mark Johnston but won two of first four for this yard and a couple of decent efforts since at York. Shade disappointing latest and handicapper probably has his measure now.

Lone win this season came first time out on AW at Wolverhampton. Not made the frame in six subsequent starts and form seemingly regressive as advertised by last of nine latest at Ascot.

Holds his form consistently and win in penultimate start at Newbury (1m) showed he's as good as ever this term. Could never quite get on terms latest in a conditions event at Ascot (1m) but strongly run 1m1f should suit.

Progressive last year when he won twice and bowed out for the year with a good second. Didn't hit those heights in three races in the summer but given a break since and suspect we will see much better here with top jockey aboard.

This trip could prove ideal for this colt who stayed on for third over 1m behind Breden before getting worn down next over 1m2f at Sandown. Clearly in good form and draw gives options so everything set for a bold bid.

Down the field in last year's Cambridgeshire and yet to win this season in nine starts. Three seconds in four starts earlier in the campaign were promising but seems to have lost way since so others are more appealing.

Built on two promising efforts when a most impressive winner of a 1m2f handicap at Haydock last time out. 5lb rise far from harsh and arrives here seemingly an improving horse so must be respected.

Improved effort latest when narrowly losing out in a sustained battle over 1m2f at Newbury. 2lb higher now but that run bodes well for his chances here and merits the shortlist with positive efforts in big fields in the past.

Lightly raced three-year old won two starts back over 1m at Sandown and kept on well next over 1m on the July course. Shade disappointing next over 1m2f at Sandown but still likelihood there's more to come.

Over three years since last win on turf and form overall this season far from encouraging. Last after a break at Thirsk followed by midfield efforts next twice over 1m2f and in both he appeared to be needing further.

Seven-time AW winner is rated 10lb higher on that surface. Decent run latest however back on turf over 1m at Yarmouth when second of five. 1m½f the furthest he's ever tried (once) so uphill finish here could find him out.

Won one of his ten starts this season, a 1m2f Sandown handicap. Fair effort latest when fourth at Doncaster but overall his form looks short of the required and doesn't appear well handicapped.

14-time winning veteran remains as good as ever this season as shown by his comfortable Haydock win in July. Good second in penultimate start at Doncaster but struggled next in warmer contest at Redcar. Bit to find overall.

Lightly raced filly was third to the classy Agrotera first time out at Royal Ascot and plenty of decent efforts since including close third last time out at Beverley. Trip here may be ideal and Ascot run (her best) suggests a big field will help.

21-race maiden been running well without success in France in last six starts. Presume he's been campaigned over the channel for softer ground so conditions here may not suit and never been beyond 1m.

Much improved since switch to this yard winning four of five races including last three. 23lb higher now than start of the hat-trick but 4L success latest suggests he's still thriving so has to be considered and step up from 1m may be ideal.

Verdict

A fiendishly difficult contest this but the vote goes to Hughie Morrison's three-year-old ESCAPE THE CITY who always finishes her races strongly. She looks on a handy mark and should have the race run to suit. There are no shortages of dangers with Almoreb certainly among them after sound efforts over 1m and 1m2f both pointing to this trip being ideal. Little Jo has been in incredible form and despite another sizable hike up the handicaps he must be considered too. Everything For You, Capton and Medieval are all capable if high draws prove the place to be.
  1. Escape The City
  2. Almoreb
  3. Little Jo
