Appeared to be a mildly progressive filly when winning for the second time (on handicap debut) at Doncaster in July (1m4f, good to firm), but has failed to fully see out the trip in her most recent races.

Broke a string of second placed finishes when getting off the mark at short odds at Brighton (1m2f novice) 19-days ago; back up in trip for the switch to handicapping in a fairly moderate contest.

Clung on for third when last in action on the Flat at Ascot (2m, good to soft) in October 2017; didn't play any significant part in a couple of subsequent hurdle spins; returns to action over this reduced trip off a 281-day break.

Made just the three appearances for Ian Williams (also saddles Perfect Summer), doing best when finishing 6L third to Singyoursong at Chelmsford (1m2f) in July; handicap mark falling; fair chance, but no more.

Hameem (11/8), Saving Grace (9/4), Tarte Tropezienne (9/2), Princess Harley (8/1), Perfect Summer (16/1), Glenys The Menace (16/1)

Verdict

Not a deep race at all by Newmarket standards, so the handicap debutante and recent Brighton winner Hameem must be strongly considered. However, a marginal preference is for the Luca Cumani-trained SAVING GRACE. Her progress has undeniably stalled of late (not seeing out her races), but it's perfectly fair to point out that one of those was a Class 2 handicap over an extended 1m5f trip. Based upon her early career form, she'd be much closer in the betting to the likely favourite, and therefore rates as the value play.
  1. Saving Grace
  2. Hameem
  3. Tarte Tropezienne
