Much better on the AW than turf nowadays. Failed to build on a good Chelmsford effort when refusing to settle at Ripon last time. Any rain would be a further difficulty to overcome.

Thriving filly who has won four times this year and went agonisingly close to adding a fifth 17 days ago. Up another 2lb but hard to ignore. Luckless trainer getting plenty of seconds but has gone 30 days without a winner.

Would have been happier if this had been run at Chepstow. Proved he stays a mile last time and down into his right grade here, but facing rivals with scope for improvement.

Easily accounted for a poor lot at Thirsk and up 8lb for that effort. Good claimer offsets the rise and in-form trainer has 11 winners, and the same number of seconds, from 41 three-year-old runners at this venue.

Had little to race with when part of a smaller group racing stands side last time. That was better than his two previous runs and a drop in the weights earns him respect.

Yet to match her debut form and she was erratic after the start last time. Did well to finish third under the circumstances and she has since been acquired by new connections.

In good heart since joining current trainer from Fergal O'Bren, winning under this rider at Chepstow over 7f and finishing clear of the third last time over this trip.

Difficult to settle and has found the pace lacking in his two latest starts over 1m2f. Had shown enough over this trip prior to suggest he can go close having been dropped in the weights, although there is no obvious pacemaker here.

Forecasts

Sod's Law (2/1), Face Like Thunder (5/2), The Groove (4/1), Choral Music (8/1), Marble Bar (9/1), Indicia (14/1), The Eagle's Nest (25/1), Wahaab (33/1)

Verdict

Face Like Thunder will be strongly fancied to follow up his Thirsk success and his trainer's runners here have a good record. However, the form of that race amounts to little and preference is for THE GROOVE who has thrived since switching stables and gets on well with today's rider. Choral Music should give her usual good account and the handicapper has given Sod's Law a chance in a race that is far more open than it may look.
  1. The Groove
  2. Choral Music
  3. Face Like Thunder
