Twice a winner over 1m at Ripon, including off his current mark in July (good); neck runner-up on his sole previous visit to Catterick (7f), so could prove tough to pass if able to get to the front early doors (faces competition).
Hasn't seen masses of racing (2-7); kept on well to score in a 6f median auction maiden here in June, and has won over 7f since (Thirsk); produced a couple of more modest efforts last month, but possible that he could bounce back.
Head winner over 5f (good to firm) at Pontefract in July, and rated just 1lb higher here; mixed fortunes since and it remains to be seen how he handles his first attempt at 7f (half-brother to 1m winner Ice Box).
Beat a couple of subsequent winners (Forward Thinker and Dixieland Diva) when scoring by a short-head over 7f at Lingfield in July; no match for an impressive 83-rated winner at Yarmouth (6f) latest; reasonable chance on handicap debut.
Made all to win a 7f Chelmsford novice in September 2017, but failed to make an impression in nurseries thereafter; tailed-off last of 16 on seasonal reappearance at Doncaster (7f) in June, and reappears wearing a tongue-tie.
Beat Weellan by ½L on his seasonal reappearance at Carlisle (7f good to firm) in May and is actually 4lb better off today; lesser efforts since (off this 5lb higher mark), but isn't fully exposed after making just seven career starts.
7f Wetherby novice winner in May (good to soft), but has failed to beat a single rival in three of his last four starts (6f-7f); dropped 10lb in the weights since introduced to handicapping but that doesn't appear to be enough.
3lb higher than when making all to score at Chepstow in July (7f, good to firm), but held in stronger races since and the handicapper probably has her measure; could give Weellan, Saisons D'or and Christmas Night company up front early.
Keen sort who faces competition for the lead; C&D maiden winner in July (good); ran well enough in a 7f Redcar Class 5 handicap latest (third); merits respect, but equally can be opposed at projected odds given wide draw.
Started at sizeable odds in three runs in novice/maiden company (7f-1m+); dam a 5f sprinter, sire a Derby winner, so has all bases covered on pedigree, but only of any interest on handicap debut if the market vibes are positive.
Front-runner who remains in good fettle - 1L winner off a 3lb lower mark at Wolverhampton (7f) in late August; equally effective on turf (earlier close up third to a subsequent winner over C&D); fair chance despite facing competition for the lead.
Forecasts
Saisons D'Or (5/1), Gratified (5/1), Weellan (11/2), Iron Sky (6/1), Knowing Glance (13/2), Rastacap (7/1), Christmas Night (8/1), Zumurud (20/1), Symposing (25/1), Harbour Vision (25/1), Tangasseri (66/1)
A very difficult race, with early pace plentiful with the likes of Christmas Night, Rastacap, Saisons D'Or and WEELLAN in the line up. Of that contingent, the Jedd O'Keeffe-trained runner is opposed on account of a wide draw (and his overly keen nature), whilst the Mark Johnston-trained runner resides on a tough looking handicap mark. Any sustained market support for Gratified on handicap debut should probably be heeded, but we'll chance the tough top-weight despite him being strictly held at these weights by Knowing Glance on early season Carlisle form. He has a handy draw in stall three and is stamina proven as a two-time 1m winner.
- Weellan
- Christmas Night
- Gratified
