Prolific winner early in his career, but is currently on a lengthy losing run. Seventh in the Pertemps at Cheltenham before finishing runner-up to Monbeg Theatre at the same course. Not as good in May at Haydock but capable of going well fresh.

Good efforts at Market Rasen and Uttoxeter in July, both just shy of 3m, well capable of getting involved from current mark and not taken too lightly.

Milan gelding has improved this summer on decent ground, going close at Ffos Last (3m, good) before scoring at Worcester over 2m7f (good) in July. 4lb higher now but likely we've still not seen the best of him.

Known to hit a flat spot in his races, cruised to C&D win in July with no such alarms, worked harder for last month's follow having gone up 7lb, set the same task and needs to find a bit more off this latest mark.

Has some fair/decent performances in him but is rather inconsistent and runs the odd stinker. Best effort in three hurdles start this year came at Worcester (2m7f, good) in June after a wind operation. Not as good two starts since though.

Perfect Mant23
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-11| J: Aidan Coleman| T: O Murphy| OR:  124
6/1
Limerick winner over 3m (heavy) in April on final start in Ireland, made a smooth winner start for this yard last month at Market Rasen (2m7f, good) and likely has leading role here despite 10lb rise.

Veteran now, pair of wins over fences at Exeter (2m3f, good) and Fontwell (3m2f, good) in May. Has had a wind operation over the summer and potentially well-treated back over timber if in similar mood now.

Likes to come from off a strong pace in this sort of event, July effort over C&D and subsequent Stratford run both fair. Rated 2lb lower now after a short break and cannot be ruled out.

Age: 6|  Weight: 10-6| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe| OR:  119| BF
10/1
Winner at Worcester in June over 2m7f and unlikely to be found out by this trip. Run well in both starts since at Uttoxeter and back at Worcester. Remains progressive, up another 3lb and first-time blinkers added, some rain might help.

Night Generationp,t76
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: James Best| T: Miss J Du Plessis| OR:  112

Just 1-13 over hurdles so far but beaten only ½L over C&D on debut for this trainer in June. Races from 3lb higher mark in deeper race this time.

Forecasts

Whataknight (5/2), Beneagles (5/1), Lord Topper (11/2), Perfect Man (6/1), Tempestatefloresco (8/1), Kings Lad (9/1), Timeforben (10/1), Lillian (12/1), Knight Of Noir (28/1), Night Generation (33/1)

Verdict

Irish import PERFECT MAN mad a flawless start for Olly Murphy when scoring last month at Market Rasen with a minimum of fuss. A 10lb rise now asks a more serious question of him but, up in trip, Aidan Coleman's mount might have the answer again. There are plenty dangers, with Worcester winner Beneagles unlikely to have done his best work yet and Kings Lad potentially well-treated back over hurdles after a summer wind operation. Timeforben is also on the shortlist and would likely go further up the pecking order were the ground to ease.

  2. Beneagles
  3. Timeforben
