On a long losing run dating back to 2015 and on a very competitive mark at present. His latest run at Ripon was encouraging but concern he has blow his chances the last twice with poor starts.

Failed to add to his two wins that he gained in April 2016 and recent runs do little to inspire confidence. Remains best watched.

His C&D second in April would put him very much in the picture, however he remains inconsistent and was poor at Carlisle last time.

Looked progressive in August with two wins and a second before a poor effort when beaten favourite at Hamilton. Could bounce back but stable form is a concern.

Just two wins from 21 starts with the last coming in his juvenile days for Godolphin in 2015. Continues to race well without winning but should prove competitive off current mark.

Won this off 5lb lower last year and despite not winning since has generally run well off higher marks since including in better races. Apprentice has ridden a recent winner for the stable and can make a bold bid.

Last win came off this mark at Hamilton in June. However concerns remain after being tailed off over the same C&D on his latest start and others preferred.

Group 3 winner for Hugo Palmer as a juvenile but way below that level when failing to add a win for Mark Johnston last year. Tends to be inconsistent and best watched on stable debut.

Yet to add to two wins from last year and has been inconsistent this campaign. On a competitive mark but hard to be confident with following a poor run at Hamilton.

Generally regressive since opening two wins and although not getting a clear run last time has generally been disappointing of late. Others look stronger candidates.

Just one turf win from 49 starts and although running on in a narrow defeat at 5f on his latest start, all his wins have come at that trip. Can be competitive but hard to have maximum confidence in for win purposes.

Made all at Pontefract in much smaller field in July and this will prove much tougher. Hard to make a case for following two very poor runs.

Won a C&D seller in May and following two poor runs caught the eye running on late from a poor draw at Ripon. A reproduction of that would entitle him to go very close.

Ran well over this C&D in June but has been very disappointing in three starts since and visor that replaces cheekpieces needs to have desired effect.

Verdict

Kenny The Captain is on a higher mark than when prevailing in last year's renewal but has fared well since in some good races and has to be considered with his apprentice's claim helping. RANTAN gets a narrow verdict in a tricky contest on the basis that he didn't get the clearest of runs in a good Ripon handicap when a very promising third and over a proven C&D there may be more to come for his current trainer. Venturous and Top Boy are likely to go well again but both remain hard to win with.
