Had looked a winner waiting to happen after two good efforts for this yard prior to making all when taking a 6f handicap at Pontefract (had the run of the race). Still has some potential of a 3lb higher mark but not as easy to lead from a wide draw h
C&D winner who started the season well with a win at Thirsk over 1m before he was a creditable 3rd when last seen competing in a slightly higher grade. Should be able to give another good account (travels well) but has to prove himself off this mark.
Made a good start to life with this stable winning his first two starts (both claimers) on the AW at the start of the year. Has run with credit since in handicaps without looking likely to win one although his mark is reducing; awkward draw no help.
Wore cheekpieces when he raced in France (successful in them once) and now tried in them having made a step back in the right direction last time over 7f. Left poorly placed there and a danger that could happen here from a poor draw; needs 1m.
Course winner on three occasions (all over 6f) although his last three wins have come at this trip. Was in much better form when recording back-to-back sine over 7f earlier this year and back from a break having run poorly the last twice; well drawn.
Yet to be beaten here (2-2) with both those wins coming over 6f (fortunate win on the second occasion) and now has a rare try over a longer trip. Disappointed on softer ground last time and doubts about this trip mean others appeal more.
Twice a C&D winner he's now 17lb below his last winning mark here with plausible excuses for his latest defeats especially last time out (hampered). Can be slow away which rather negates his draw but dangerous to leave alone off this mark.
A winner last year on quick ground over this trip she's failed to really fire this year so far in three starts. May have been a little better than her run suggests last time out (not ideally placed) and she may step forward a little here.
Won twice here last year once over this trip (in a lower grade) and hasn't really shown much so far this year. Ran in a better grade last time though and this easier task from a good draw off a falling mark could see her improve; nicely drawn also.
Type that can burst into life for this yard although he's yet to really got going yet but is starting to look dangerously well handicapped. There was some promise last time at Beverley in his performance and he's one to note a market move for.
Better over the winter on the AW he returned from a break/wind op looking as though he needed the run at Newcastle. This will be his first run on turf since early last year (draw not been kind) and he's best watched for now.
Quirky sort who has flattered only to deceive on more than one occasion but did show some promise last time in the AW. That wouldn't be the first time he's given that impression though and he is a much better animal on the AW.
Started the season quite well but hasn't been in much form of late (generally runs his best races at Beverley). Only run here twice (a long while ago) and didn't really show his best form then; best watched for now.
Forecasts
Chickenfortea (5/1), Etikaal (5/1), Fingal's Cave (6/1), Chaplin Bay (13/2), Mango Chutney (15/2), Mudawwan (8/1), Zebulon (11/1), Outer Space (16/1), Groupie (16/1), Rose Marmara (18/1), Bold Spirit (28/1), Relight My Fire (33/1), Chaucer's Tale (40/1)
Typically competitive Catterick handicap and much will depend on the run of the race with quite a few that like to go forward and that may favour a closer. FINGAL’S CAVE will need a little luck in running but he’s becoming too well handicapped to ignore after showing some promise of late without the races going his way. Chickenfortea is one of the likely pace angles in this and he’s becoming well treated again having won here twice with the equally well drawn Bold Spirit also looking to go forward having won here three times before. Etikaal got back to winning ways last time and is only raised 3lb but his wide draw looks a tricky one; Mango Chutney is in the same position.
- Fingal's Cave
- Chickenfortea
- Etikaal
