Showed some fair bordering on useful form when with Willie Mullins but has done nothing but regress for this yard since joining them. Now back over fences but well held over hurdles last time in a selling handicap; others preferred.
Her starting price on her debut for this yard (66/1) hardly advertised her chance but she had been given a chance by the handicapper and has joined a small but very capable yard. Went with zest and needs to back that run up; 4lb higher here.
Made it 2 from 3 over fences when winning at Sedgefield in May by 8L having undergone some wind surgery but has failed to back that run up since. Easy to back over C&D last time he dropped out quickly; questions to answer.
Appears to be taking forward steps with this yard and has already won over hurdles and fences striking over the larger obstacles at Newton Abbot in June. The handicapper hasn't taken kindly to those wins though and he has to defy a tougher mark.
Frustrating sort who really ought to have won a race by now over obstacles (0-17) having travelled well into plenty of races and not quite delivered as yet. Ran well again last time but not sure this long run-in will suit his run style.
Tends to like to go from the front and did well to win in that style at Huntingdon (goes well there) in March off a 4lb lower mark. Ran with credit after that although he failed to complete last time; not the easiest though.
Appeared to strike up a good rapour with Jockey Ross Chapman (not on today) and recorded his first belated win under him at Hexham. The same combination went off too hard over C&D last time (contested lead); same scenario here.
Failed to show much over hurdles for this yard but there was a little more to like about his last start when sent chasing for the first time although he was flattered by his final position. Has to build on that now and others appeal more.
Forecasts
Eric The Third (7/4), Motion To Strike (4/1), Jackthejourneyman (5/1), Alys Rock (11/2), Falcos (9/1), My Renaissance (14/1), Reverse The Charge (14/1), New Kid In Town (20/1)
There could well be plenty of pace on here with several of these likely to go forward and it was that same scenario that scuppered the chances of Reverse The Charge last time. Eric The Third is another one that has gone forward in the past and although he’s in good form he does have to prove that he can cope with this inflated mark. Motion To Strike really ought to be winning races like this and it won’t be a surprise to see him travel well with Brian Hughes back on board but he will need to find something on the long run-in. The Laura Morgan yard are quietly becoming a yard to note and they have done a good job already with ALYS ROCK and she’s taken to follow-up her Worcester win.
- Alys Rock
- Motion To Strike
- Eric The Third
