Turf debut having had just four races on the AW one of which (last time) was his handicap debut. Remains with one standout effort to his name when 2nd to Warm Oasis at Newcastle (1m4f); mark looks a stiff one.

All his three wins (took back-to-back handicaps last year) have come on undulating tracks with his last win at Epsom (July 2017). Has now slipped back below the mark he won off there but has yet to fire this season.

Had a luckless time over hurdles of late (2nd on three occasions) but still looks a useful sort on the Flat in this grade. Not suited by the was the race was run at Sandown last time in a better grade than this and looks competitive off this mark.

Winner of a Thirsk maiden (1m, heavy) last year her two runs this year have been better than they look on paper. Started slowly both times though and needs a strong gallop to run at to be seen at her best; of interest off this mark.

Dual winner at this trip last year he's been a little slow to come to hand this year but is gradually coming to hand. This looks to be his time of the year and a visor is now applied for the first time to eke out some more improvement; not ruled out.

Gave her trainer something to build on last time running a respectable race returning from a long absence (Caravela 3rd) over 2f further (made running). Raced rather freely but that was only her second handicap start; career-low mark now.

Last two wins have come on the AW (also won on turf) and did well in his latest victory to overcome being held up in a steadily run race. Failed in a similar scenario last time and bet given a pass for that; would benefit from a well run race.

Ended his turf hoodoo when taking a weak small-field contest at Nottingham last time off his much lower turf mark. Looked happier in the headgear (cheekpieces) worn last time and those are retained here; up just 2lb but this looks stronger.

First time in a handicap for this one having shaped quite well when switched to turf for his last two starts. Stayed on well at Carlisle last time (1m1f) and bred to be suited by trips like this; more interesting now that he goes handicapping.

Consistent sort if nothing else having taken the runner-up slot on his last two starts looking a threat to the winner on both occasions. This 1m2f looks to be his trip and he generally travels well in his races; chance with the yard having hit form.

Ran some respectable races last winter for his former trainer (George Peckham) before not being disgraced on his first run for his new yard. Drops back to the distance of his sole win now but does have a little to find with most of these.

Forecasts

Caravela (11/4), Jumping Jack (5/1), Ourmullion (11/2), Punkawallah (13/2), Scoones (15/2), The Jean Genie (8/1), Fair Power (8/1), Sharp Reply (25/1), Bayston Hill (33/1), Zoffany Bay (33/1), Emerald Cross (33/1)

Verdict

Quite a few of these can be given a chance although a decent gallop wouldn’t go amiss for one or two to operate off either. Jumping Jack and Caravela would be two that would fall into that category with a better start being needed by the latter to really put herself in the mix. The Jean Genie looks likely to come on from here last start and would be dangerous if given the run of the race. Sharp Reply in handicap company for the first time is worth making a note of in the market with a better run expected from that one in this sphere. SCOONES is the suggestion though with this trip looking to suit and two sound runs under his belt he’s selected to go one better now.
  1. Scoones
  2. The Jean Genie
  3. Caravela
