Not unusually for one from this yard came back to form last time totally out of the blue winning at Haydock emphatically under a front-running ride. Cashed-in on a reduced mark there; 10lb rise immediately puts him back in a more competitive heat.
Highly-tried as a three-year-old this is his first year in handicaps and there's some potential in him in this sphere. Better than the result last time out (came wrong side at Epsom) but will have to show that he can handle a quick surface.
Not won for nearly two years now but ran his best race this year after a break in June when runner-up at Newmarket. Failed to back-up that run on the AW last time and now back on turf over a longer trip; won off higher marks in the past.
Made a good start to life with this yard winning on her second start for them and overcoming a pace bias to do so. Both her races for this stable have been against her own sex and she now has to prove herself in open company off a career-high mark.
Has run two sound races over further after needing the run on his seasonal return. Now tried over 3f shorter than he was last time when turning in a good effort to be 3rd at Goodwood (beaten by two improvers); respected but trip looks on short side.
Just the one win to his name in handicaps on the AW over this trip off a 3lb lower mark he failed to build on his reappearance run last time at Musselburgh. Ran far too keenly there and had nothing left will need to settle better here.
Forecasts
Sofia's Rock (9/4), Humble Hero (9/4), Western Duke (7/2), Canberra Cliffs (11/2), Grandee (11/1), Majeed (16/1)
Not hard to make a case for all of these although there are equally some questions that they all have to answer with the 10lb rise that Sofia’s Rock has to cope with for his Haydock romp looking a little harsh. Grandee needs to show that he can handle a quick surface and although the trip looks on the short side HUMBLE HERO has run well of late and the first-time cheekpieces should assist him. Canberra Cliffs is a tough and consistent sort and she tries her luck against the boys here having had a couple of races against her own sex of late; her Goodwood win gives her a sound chance in this.
