Has done plenty of racing already in 2018 (12 starts) and that might just account for his more recent dip in form; first-time hood (retained) made little impact latest; trip versatile (5f-7f).
Six-time AW winner, but just 1 from 20 on turf; drops back 3f in trip after racing over 1m2f at Brighton latest and that's surely in his favour.
Untested in handicap company on turf, but has looked progressive on the AW since headed down this route, winning three races between 6f-7f (all at Kempton); up 3lb.
C&D winner in July 2016 and ran well when beaten just ½L by Presidential at Haydock (6f good to firm) earlier this month; obvious contender.
2lb below his last winning mark (7f Brighton, September 2017), but he's been below-par at his favoured seaside venue in 2018, so needs the change of scenery to provide a spark; wears blinkers.
No win since his days with Karl Burke (1m, Newcastle), but more like it switched back to turf at Newmarket last month (7f good to firm) when beaten a head by the subsequent Haydock 'winner' Saluti; chance despite a 3lb higher mark.
His best run for previous trainer Brian Meehan came here on soft ground (7f) in May 2017. Joined this yard for £8,000 in November 2017, but was well beaten on handicap debut (first run for 11 months) at Wolverhampton.
Has filled the runner up berth on six occasions since winning at Lingfield in February (7f) and whilst that's admirable, it's never an ideal trait for protecting the handicap mark; arguably slightly better with some cut.
€27,000 yearling and didn't look all that special on his first two starts, but took a clear step forward at Beverley (7½f) earlier this month when beaten just ½L by 11/8f Alrahaal; handicap debut.
Largely unexposed over 7f prior to winning readily over C&D just twelve days ago; up 5lb in a stronger race, but remains one for the shortlist with conditions likely to be riding very similar tonight.
AW regular (8 from 37) who switches back to turf for the first time since August 2017; both previous turf wins came on quick ground (6f) in July 2016, but surprising if he's the solution.
Forecasts
Ragstone View (5/2), Nick Vedder (9/2), Treacherous (9/2), Burford Brown (7/1), Lucky Louie (8/1), Danecase (8/1), Wink Oliver (20/1), Chetan (25/1), Good Luck Charm (25/1), Sayesse (33/1), Alqalsar (50/1)
A race which can be narrowed down to five runners. Burford Brown makes his handicap debut after an improved effort at Beverley and is respected given his handler and modest opening mark, whilst both Danecase at Treacherous (has to prove himself on turf) arrive in decent shape. Ragstone View steps up in grade from a 5lb higher mark following his recent C&D success, but with conditions likely to be riding similar should be thereabouts, but the one who makes most appeal is NICK VEDDER. Win-less since his days with Karl Burke, he's threatened to thwart that sequence on various occasions, but his most recent run (Class 4) reads well in the context of this race.
- Nick Vedder
- Danecase
- Treacherous
