Well handicapped on his form of 2016 and some of his 2017 form. Never involved on his reappearance, but now drops in grade and a revival would not surprise.
Former Listed winner, but that was way back in 2012 and his only success since then came in Australia in 2014. Conditions and trip are fine and he could certainly be given a chance on his best form of last year and a Newcastle run in March.
0-9 on turf, his sole win being on the All Weather. On a good mark here based on a couple of Sandown runs last July and his Chester effort last month. Slight question remains as to whether he truly sees out 1m.
Scored from this mark on turf at Carlisle (1m, good to firm) last year and won from 3lb higher on AW in August. Respectable comeback run at Carlisle again last month and should be capable of going close here.
Without a win since his debut at Redcar in 2015 (7f, good to firm). Well treated on some of his form from last year, but has been struggling to get it together in his last five starts. Not written off, but plenty now to prove.
All seven of his wins have been over 7f and although he has made the frame over this trip, he has been less consistent. Comfortably held at Thirsk over 1m again last time and has widest draw to overcome here. Others preferred.
Sole win was over 7f (good) at Leicester in 2016 from 12lb lower. Has run some good races in defeat from higher marks since, including over 1m, but probably has each-way claims again.
Scored over this trip on good to firm at Musselburgh a year ago when 6lb higher, but has been unable to get close to that form since. Was gelded prior to a good debut for this trainer at Thirsk last month. Each-way claims.
Showed promise over 7f-1m2f without winning for Charlie Appleby. Gelded prior to his last (and only below--par) run for that trainer. Bought for £5,000 in September and makes stable debut here from same mark. Probably best watched.
Won his first two races on the All Weather last year and has so far looked better away from turf, on which he is 0-3. Sees out 1m on AW and should be better for his reappearance at Newmarket last month. Drops 4lb but more needed.
Arrives in good form after scoring at Thirsk (1m, good to firm) last time. Up 4lb for that and in better company here, he will need to eek out a bit more, but he keeps managing to so do and is very much respected here.
Trip and ground are ideal for this three-time winner whose most recent success came two starts ago at Thirsk, when 8lb lower. Raced keenly and finished last of 13 at Hamilton last time. Up a further 2lb here and needs to bounce back,
Scored over 6f (good to firm) at Hamilton a year ago, when 1lb lower, for David Brown. Not competitive since. Had wind op prior to making debut for this trainer and has run respectably. Unexposed over 1m and interesting.
Won over 7f/7½f in Ireland when there was some cut in the ground. Has been getting better with each run since joining this trainer and a 4lb drop could bring him into this. Handles good to firm.
AW winner (7f) in 2015, but yet to make the frame on turf. Wind surgery does not yet appear to have had a positive effect judged on his two runs since and a watching brief is advised.
1-25 on turf. Ran well over C&D from this mark last year, but is inconsistent and although she has a squeak if at her best, her record suggests that she is worth taking on again.
Forecasts
Mango Chutney (5/1), Ice Slice (6/1), Sultan Baybars (7/1), Pensax Boy (8/1), Inner Circle (9/1), Whitkirk (10/1), Family Fortunes (11/1), Fingal's Cave (11/1), Thomas Cranmer (14/1), Parys Mountain (14/1), Totally Magic (16/1), Kentuckyconnection (25/1), Radjash (25/1), Dasheen (33/1), Stipulate (50/1), Marylebone (66/1)
An open contest where PENSAX BOY is the suggestion. We know that he can win from this mark, while he arrives with a respectable reappearance run under his belt and conditions to suit. Parys Mountain is an interesting opponent who is unexposed at the trip and an improved effort would not surprise, while Ice Slice, Sultan Baybars, Inner Circle, Thomas Cranmer, Mango Chutney and Dasheen are all capable of making an impact.
- Pensax Boy
- Parys Mountain
- Ice Slice
