Made a fairly modest debut and went backwards from that on his second run switched to turf at Thirsk over 1m. Looks one for the longer term trying a new trip here.

Modest form in bumpers and ran to a similar level switched to the Flat on the AW (Fibresand) taking third in a small field on debut. Not unduly put under pressure and may find opportunities in handicaps further down the line.

Just the one run for Charlie Appleby (cost €300,000 as a two-year-old) and has shown only mild progression for this yard. Attracted some support last time making handicap/Fibresand debut and isn't badly treated; returns to maidens.

Has had a wind op but has still failed to show any form in two starts for this yard. Cheekpieces now tried for the first-time.

Given some of his antics it's not hard to have some doubts about him and he remains a maiden despite having ability. Caught the eye on his return this year but then totally blew his chance with slow start last time; now tried in first-time blinkers.

Sets the standard and a relatively rare runner for the stable here having given an odds-on shot a real fright last time. Gelded for that run he looked to have more to offer and reverts to turf now and looks sure to go on improving.

Produced one laboured effort when with Jeremy Noseda on the AW at the end of last year. Unable to handle conditions on his turf debut (1m2f, heavy) and now back to 7f on a better surface.

Stoutly-bred sort who needs the emphasis more on stamina having had three runs as a juvenile at up to 1m. All of those outings were on soft/heavy ground so it remains to be seen how he reacts to this better ground.
Cost €24,000 as a yearling and makes her debut here. Half-sister to a useful sort Voice The Leader with the dam a winner at up to a 1m. Yard have a good record here and it will be no great surprise to see her run well here.

Green on her debut over 6f at Doncaster she showed little more upped to 7f for her second start in a Thirsk maiden. Looks one for the longer term and handicaps once she has a mark.

Forecasts

Georgian Manor (8/11), Chief Justice (3/1), Ormesher (6/1), Bayshore Freeway (8/1), Fascinator (8/1), Soldier Blue (25/1), Yvanlend (25/1), Assure (33/1), Twilight (50/1), Magojiro (50/1), Lambrini Lullaby (50/1), Nevada (66/1), Millybond (150/1)

Verdict

Not a tremendous amount of strength in depth and most of the fancied runners are drawn wide which does rather complicate the issue. There’s no doubt that Chief Justice has plenty of ability but he also looks to have an attitude to go with it and his slow starting antics mean he can’t be trusted with the win vote here. Fascinator should improve this year but the Ann Duffield team are a little quiet at the moment and it may well be that the debutante Bayshore Freeway can get involved here for her powerful yard. GEORGIAN MANOR sets the form standard though and given he pushed a useful sort and odds-on favourite all the way last time he looks to have an excellent chance in this.
  1. Georgian Manor
  2. Bayshore Freeway
  3. Chief Justice
