Takes a step back down in grade here after a middling effort at Ayr last time but previous eighth in the Grand Annual was a decent effort. This trip should prove ideal and with the yard in flying form, holds a solid chance.

No doubting that this is a good mark if he can recapture his form, and this is his time of the year, but never looked a threat on reappearance at Cheltenham (a track he's gone well at before) and questions to answer now.

Likes small fields (last five wins in 3,4 or 5 runner events) and did at least put in a better effort to finish second to the well-treated Antony at Fontwell last time. Clearly risky but this may be run to suit and can't be discounted easily.

Victim of his own consistency last season, handicapper reluctant to drop him after a series of consistent placed efforts and you've got to go back two years to find his last win. Trip and ground fine, but others make more appeal.

Never the most consistent, outclassed in the Topham Chase last time but will find this easier. Still looks a couple of pounds too high in the handicap and it all really depends what side he's got out of bed of. Very risky.

Has developed a love affair with this place, twice a winner here this season and this trip and ground fine. However, those wins in lesser company than today and he has to race from out of the handicap here. Needs another personal best for the yard.

Forecasts

Born Survivor (7/4), Voix D'Eau (15/8), Always On The Run (11/2), Ulis De Vassy (13/2), Bishops Court (14/1), Notarfbad (16/1)

Verdict

None of the six look rock solid and all have some sort of question to answer. BORN SURVIVOR represents a yard in top form and might find this trip more to his liking after not getting home over 3m at Ayr last time. He's always had a bit of class and may be able to take this despite the big weight. Bishops Court is happiest in small fields and a return to form may be imminent. He can grab second ahead of Voix D'Eau, who has gone off the boil a bit but may find the way this race unfolds suits him.
