Previous good enough to win at Group level but is a way below that standard these days, and this mark looks too high from a handicap perspective.

Far from disgraced in Listed company at Lingfield last time out when beaten less than three lengths. Down in trip here in first-time blinkers, but a repetition of that performance would see him go well.

Attracted market support for the Lincoln but ultimately disappointing in that race and in a subsequent Newmarket handicap. Return to a smaller field may help him here.

Has won over this trip in the past but arguably more accomplished over 7f, though his lower turf mark (by 7lb) doesn't reflect the fact he can go very well on grass.

Carries a 6lb penalty for winning at Pontefract earlier in the week, but did it well there and has won on soft ground in the past; holds claims once again.

Caused an upset in the Spring Mile at Doncaster last time when returning to winning ways, but has gone up 5lb for winning by just a neck, and that hardly makes his task easy here.

Forecasts

Gulf Of Poets (13/8), High Acclaim (11/4), Fire Brigade (7/2), Masham Star (8/1), Red Label (10/1), Kings Gift (10/1), Mythical Madness (12/1), Custom Cut (20/1)

Verdict

Fire Brigade is of interest now in a smaller field, especially given all the hype about him prior to the Lincoln (which he ultimately disappointed in), but GULF OF POETS won nicely at Pontefract earlier in the week and if having recovered from his exertions there could win again under a 6lb penalty. Red Label ran fairly well in a Listed race last time and could also hit the frame now returning to handicap company.
