Back-to-back AW wins at the end of last year over this trip. Still 7lbs higher than the first of those and has questions to answer on his earlier turf efforts. Has race fitness on side after blowing away any cobwebs at Wolverhampton three weeks ago
Finished off 2017 well with a win at Thirsk (7f, good to firm) and a second at Beverley (7½f, soft) off a 4lb higher mark. Nudged up another 2lb for that effort but rider claims a handy 3lb and likely there is plenty more to come this year.
Beaten favourite in 4-7 starts, so has proved a bit frustrating for supporters. Trip/ground are no problem for him, while he also goes well when fresh. 5lb rise for latest run discouraging, though if at his best he could go close.
Fairly consistent efforts last season without looking especially well handicapped. Had a winter break and no surprise to see some improvement this term and talented rider takes off a handy 5lbs today if fit and ready to go.
Sole success came over this trip (good to soft) in a Newbury maiden for Richard Hannon in 2016. Unable to answer handicapper's questions since then but down further 3lb for stable debut and a market check needed for yard that does well with recruits
Yard have once again had a wonderful winter. He's much better on the AW than turf but ran really well at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) last time. Step back up to 7f looks a good move and hard to discount in current mood having won this in 2016.
All five career wins have come on the AW. Having struggled to beat a rival over the winter his mark is now in free-fall. Hard to make a case on current form but likely to bounce back at some stage.
Has yet to show his best form on ground slower than good to soft, so conditions are a concern today. 4lb higher than his last win (at Redcar in October). If back at that level he couldn't be ruled out, but inconsistent and others preferred.
Hasn't won since August 2016 but is starting to look pretty well handicapped as a result. Yard are very good at getting one ready on the back of a lengthly break so fitness should not be an issue and could go well at a price.
This is his trip but is mainly kept to the AW surface at Newcastle these days. Might need a bit more relief in his mark before he can be competitive on turf again.
Quirky character who has a liking for soft ground. Doesn't always find what it seems likely when push comes to shove. Has finally dropped below his last winning mark but hard to be confident of a good showing.
Made yard debut at Newcastle (5f, AW) over a trip short of his best. He is starting to look well handicapped on some of his earlier efforts and a market check is important back up in trip today.
Already had a busy time of it in 2018 but does not look particularly well handicapped at present and may need to drop a few pounds before becoming of interest.

Mark is tumbling but no sign of revival on recent stable debut at Wolverhampton (1m½f, AW). Seems to be on the downgrade and similar story today.
Forecasts
Call Out Loud (7/2), Presidential (9/2), Kirkham (9/2), Warrior's Spirit (8/1), Tuscany (17/2), Jessinamillion (12/1), Vive La Difference (14/1), Hitman (14/1), Aguerooo (16/1), Mr Cool Cash (18/1), Tadaany (20/1), Gun Case (25/1), Lucky Lodge (40/1), Chiswick Bey (66/1)
Call Out Loud won this back in 2016 and showed his wellbeing when going close over a furlong shorter at Thirsk last time. He is likely to go well once more. Vive Le Difference was well backed several times last season and may prove better than his current mark at some stage. A market check is needed for Presidential and any money could be significant. The final one on the shortlist is KIRKHAM who finished 2017 with a flourish and could continue on an upward curve.
- Kirkham
- Call Out Loud
- Vive La Difference
