Landed an apprentice handicap at Doncaster under today's rider on opening day of the season and has been raised 5lb for that success. Handles cut in the ground and should see out the extra furlong so has to be respected.
Registered a hat-trick at up to 1m6f in the summer of 2016 but has regressed since then and starts this term 8lb lower on turf than at Epsom in October when he ran poorly. May be best watched until hinting at a revival.
Only win in 22 starts came over hurdles at Uttoxeter. Has bits and pieces of form on the level that suggest he might not be badly handicapped but doesn't jump off the page as a likely winner.
Landed amateur riders handicap over 1m4f at Doncaster last term on soft ground and raised 5lb for that effort. There may still be more to come though so looks one for the shortlist if in a similar mood.
10-race maiden but has gone fairly close a couple of times on the AW and turf so is not dismissed out of hand. Has seven month absence to overcome though and chances are he will improve for this seasonal return.
Three wins to his name at up to 1m2f and wasn't given a hard time on most recent outing on AW. Should be fully fit but not guaranteed to improve for the step up to this trip. Worth a market check though.
22-race maiden whose best effort have come at around 1m2f. Ran well for a long way at Doncaster in March following a seven-week break but is not oen to trust implicitly although has the ability to win a race of this nature at some point.
Rwo runs in Ireland last term for Mick Halford, hinting at ability each time. Two runs so far for current yard this term, finishing second latest when favourite for Newcastle AW 1m2f handicap. Eased 1lb, good jockey booking, and is respected.
Won two of his last four starts last term at 1m4f so no stamina doubts for this gelded son of Bahri. Led for a long way after winter break before getting tired last month and should strip fitter now. Has good each-way claims.
Apprentice rider gets on very well with this gelding winning three times on him at a wide variety of distances last season. Reunited with him now and cannot be ruled out off a feasible mark, so definitely worth a second glance.
15-race maiden but has gone close a number of times and not disgraced on last two starts. Top jockey booked for yard in flying form so shouldn't be too far away.
Showed some promise in maidens last spring but has shown little to write home about in two starts since returning to the fray. On balance has plenty to find to trouble the judge.
Won first two stars for current yard last summer and ran creditably in three subsequent races, two over hurdles. Returns from winter break and full fitness not guaranteed, but jockey booking is encouraging and might go well.
12-race Flat maiden but did win over the sticks at Plumpton in January. Was very disappointing last three starts on the level though and on balance there are others with much stronger claims.
Scored over C&D last October off 10lb lower mark, and has won twice this winter on the AW at up to 1m4f. More needed to resume winning ways and might just been in the grip of the assessor now.
Rather disappointing six-race maiden who failed to stay 2m last time on the AW. This trip looks more within range and on her third at Newmarket last summer she couldn't be ruled out. Needs to raise her game though.
Forecasts
The Detainee (13/2), Pretty Jewel (13/2), Time To Sea (7/1), Iconic Belle (8/1), Golconda Prince (8/1), Amuletum (10/1), Hatsaway (10/1), Overhaugh Street (14/1), Betsalottie (16/1), Prerogative (16/1), Quids In (16/1), Strictly Art (20/1), Argyle (20/1), Broughtons Story (25/1), Tapdancealltheway (25/1), Zulu (33/1)
PRETTY JEWEL is a tentative choice in a very open middle-distance handicap. She won well at Doncaster last time and off her revised mark should still be very competitive. Amuletum is one of a number of possible dangers that also include the likes of Golconda Prince, Overhaugh Street, and The Detainee. Strictly Art goes very well for today's rider but soft ground is something of a concern.
- Pretty Jewel
- Overhaugh Street
- Amuletum
