Form has a rather in and out feel to it. Tends to save his best efforts for Ayr these days (last four wins all there). Handles soft and heavy going well and rider takes off a handy 7lbs so has to be considered if fit and ready after 6 months break.

Lomu183
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-7| J: Rowan Scott(3)| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  85| BF
Won three of six starts to date, the lastest at Ayr (7f, good). Disappointed on final start last season on soft ground at Musselburgh when missing the break and pulling much too hard. Every chance there will be more to come for a shrewd yard.

Roll On Rory124
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-7| J: F Norton| T: J Ward| OR:  85| D
Gutsy winner off 7lb lower at Newmarket (1mile, good-to-soft) two starts back. Struggled up in class and up in trip next time at Wolverhampton (1m1½f, AW). Had a four month break and faces competition for the lead today which will make life tough.

Age: 9|  Weight: 9-5| J: B A Curtis| T: S Dixon| OR:  83| D
Struggled at Doncaster (7f, soft) on latest start. Has found life tough off marks this high in recent times and may well do so again today.

Silvery Moon146
Age: 11|  Weight: 9-5| J: Rachel Richardson(3)| T: T D Easterby| OR:  83| CD
Wonderful servant that won at Pontefract (1m2f, soft) on penultimate start last year. Failed to fire off 3lb higher mark over this C&D next time. Rider's claim puts him effectively back on that last winning mark and hard to dismiss.

Finshed 2017 with a real bang when running up at hat-trick of wins. Handicapper has put him up another 8lbs so whilst this requires a good bit extra, every reason to believe there is more to come.

Candelisap172
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-5| J: Barry McHugh| T: T Coyle & K Wood| OR:  83| CD
Gained his first win since his maiden victory at Redcar towards the end of last season but that came in a seller and he was well beaten on first start for this yard back in a handicap last time. Bit to prove at present.

Mooltazem180
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Callum Rodriguez(3)| T: M Dods| OR:  80| BF| D
Lightly raced four-year-old. Went very close when beaten just a head at Nottingham (1m½f) in October. Plenty of scope for improvement this term and could prove to be well handicapped now having switched yards.

Torrid185
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-2| J: Nathan Evans| T: M & D Easterby| OR:  80| CD
Wasn't running too badly when yard were having a quiet time last summer. Only 3lbs higher than when winning over C&D last april. Could be dangerous if fit and ready for yard that won this race last year.

Age: 10|  Weight: 8-13| J: Lewis Edmunds(3)| T: J Balding| OR:  77| D
Admirable ten-year-old who tends to win in his turn. Now 1lb lower than when winning at Carlisle last year. Race fit from the AW but may find one or two with younger legs too good. Has several entries this week.

Running well on the AW this winter. Went well for a long way at Doncaster (1m2f) last time and the drop back in trip here may well suit. Considered.

0/7 So far and cheekpieces that had no effect on latest run at Newcastle (1m, AW) are left off today. Dropped another 4lbs on the back of that effort and no great surprise were yard to get him right sooner rather than later.

Brother McGonagall187
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-7| J: D Fentiman| T: T D Easterby| OR:  71| D
Won three times last season and is now only 1lb higher than for the latest of those victories. Gets in here off a low weight and whilst never won above class 5, couldn't rule out. Each way player.

Forecasts

Mooltazem (4/1), Pioneering (9/2), Le Chat D'Or (5/1), Silvery Moon (13/2), Cadeau Magnifique (10/1), Lomu (10/1), Roll On Rory (14/1), Showboating (14/1), Candelisa (14/1), Boots And Spurs (16/1), Brother McGonagall (16/1), Ascot Week (20/1), Torrid (20/1)

Verdict

Brother McGonagall hasn't won above class 5 before but gets in here off a low weight and is worth each way consideration. Mooltazem could prove to be a well handicapped horse this season having switched from a powerful yard and Torrid is another one that could go well but preference is for PIONEERING. Just the type his trainer does well with, he is taken to make light of his rise in the weights to go on and win again.
