Showed his best form when winning over 6f on quick ground in July putting his experience to good use but showing improved form. Not disgraced in two Listed races after that although that was flying high and returned to a more suitable grade.

Made the most of a fairly low mark when winning a 7f Tapeta nursery when with Mark Johnston making all stepped up in trip. Failed to build on that and let go cheaply to this yard and showed little for them on debut over a mile; Fibresand debut.

Has a fair pedigree (half-brother to several winners) with his dam a juvenile winner over 7f who stayed a further. Makes some appeal on those facts but the surface is an unknown and he may need the experience.

Dam was of little account but she is a half-sister a Group 3 winner in The Whistling Teal. Lacks experience and yard have only had two runners so far this year and best watched on Fibresand debut unless there is a market move.

The only runner who has any Fibresand experience having been placed twice here already in Class 6 handicaps. Has work to do at the weights based on official ratings but does handle this surface and that can make a difference here.

Forecasts

Major Peirson (4/5), Teardrop Island (7/2), New Britain (4/1), Lady Merganser (9/1), Sulafaat (33/1)

Verdict

A fairly tricky little contest to unravel and although TEARDROP ISLAND is badly off at the weights according to the official ratings her experience of this unique surface could tip the balance in her direction. The best overall form is held by Major Peirson but he’s not run here before and could well need this outing having been off for a considerable while. New Britain has a decent pedigree and could be useful is he takes to this surface while Sulafaat has to prove herself having left Mark Johnston cheaply.
  1. Teardrop Island
  2. Major Peirson
  3. New Britain
