C&D winner who gained his first win since here last time. Fair bit to like about that performance given he travelled wide throughout and had a look around entering the straight. Not a consistent type but can't be ruled out if he improves.

Could hardly have been more impressive when winning over C&D here in November but he's been a little hit and miss subsequently. No obvious excuses when stepped up to Listed class last time out and others may prove to be better handicapped.

Impressive last to first performance over 6f here last month and best to forgive his effort last time in a muddling affair. Strong pace seemingly essential to his chance and will be doing all his best work in the finish but possibly better over 6f.

There's a suspicion he's well-handicapped off this mark but all his form is on turf and he's yet to place in five AW starts. Wide draw won't help and often needs his first run of the season. Likely to need a pace collapse to be seen at his best.

Has won eight of his 23 starts on AW including a C&D success last time out. Form of that contest looks rock solid and yard are in excellent form of late. Another one who will want a pace to aim at but he's an interesting candidate nonetheless.

Not very consistent but has been running well on the AW this winter and gets the assistance of a promising apprentice. No doubt he will need more though and he's finished unplaced on both his career starts here; opposable from a wide draw.

Kept progressing with every start last year but shaped a little like a non-stayer on sole previous try at this trip. May have improved over the winter and can't be discounted if he does stay the trip.

In flying form on the AW this winter in Ireland and still feasibly handicapped for this on old form. Main concern would be him staying this trip having done all his winning over shorter.

All four of his wins have come on the AW over this trip (two over C&D) and he's versatile from a tactics perspective. Blew away the cobwebs with a promising run at Chelmsford last time and not dismissed if that run sharpens him up.

Largely campaigned on turf prior to this winter but has been running well on AW and recorded a C&D success in January. Very dangerous to gift an easy lead to, well-handicapped and could be hard to peg back from his low draw.

Returned to form with respectable effort at Newcastle last time out when second of 14. Up 3lb for that though and this is tougher so has to improve again and only previous run here was disappointing.

Wolverhampton specialist it seems on AW and runner-up back at that course last time out. This looks a much harder race though and he has a tough ask from the widest draw.

Won his maiden over C&D and largely consistent since. Too fresh on return from an absence last time but entitled to do better here and can't be ruled out.

Verdict

A highly competitive start to the 2018 All-Weather Championships and hard to rule out any of the 14 runners declared. Course and distance winner SWIFT APPROVAL is the tentative selection given he may get his own way on the front end from his inside draw and talented apprentice Callum Rodriguez is an eye-catching jockey booking who is capable of setting the right fractions. Eljaddaaf is another course and distance winner with a good strike-rate on the all-weather and he will be doing all his best work at the finish. There was a lot to like about Wahash's performance last time out and Richard Hannon's colt should be thereabouts with a repeat of that effort.
