Has run well on both starts at a similarly undulating Sedgefield, winning there easily on soft ground when last seen in November. 8lb rise for that looks very fair and there should be further improvement in him. Short-listed.

Has won here three times and run several other good races at the track. Is 5lb higher than the last of those wins in October. Out of sorts last time after a break, but should be spot on for the return north-west and can probably raise his game here.

No doubting that he looks to be on an attractive mark at 2lb lower than his last win, but he has been unable to reach those heights this term, including on his first run post-wind surgery at Wetherby when a beaten favourite last time. Bit to prove.

Bold front runner who scored twice on good to soft last spring, the latter from just 2lb lower. Was back at that level at Ludlow when last seen in December and a 2lb drop since then entitles him to claims with a very positive rider on board.

Kelso specialist whose best work tends to be done on good ground (has also won on good to soft/soft). Put up a decent effort from 3lb higher back at Kelso last time and as one who goes well when fresh he cannot be ruled out.

Took advantage of a drop in the weights to get his nose in front again at Sedgefield (2m5f, good to soft) in October, but held twice since. Now just 2lb above that successful mark and can't be confident he will run to that level.

Forecasts

Derintoher Yank (2/1), Robbing The Prey (3/1), Pistol Park (7/2), Grey Gold (7/1), Sudski Star (8/1), Indian Voyage (8/1), Ifandbutwhynot (9/1)

Verdict

An interesting contest where Danny Cook is a great choice to get a tune out of the front-running IFANDBUTWHYNOT, who goes well on good to soft ground, races over his optimum trip and has decent claims from just 2lb higher than his latest success. Robbing The Prey is an obvious threat after making a promising start to his career over fences, while Derintoher Yank is feared given his excellent record at this track. Grey Gold has been given every chance of a revival by the handicapper and the presence of the champion makes that plausible, while Sudski Star is not ruled out.
