Seven-time C&D winner he did run a little better than of late when dropped into this grade last time out. He's well below his last winning mark but is unreliable and not certain to build on his third here last time out behind two good Fibresand types.

Makes his Fibresand debut for a yard that punch above their weight here (double at the track on Tuesday). Not really fared that well so far though for this yard and fared poorly last time in a 7f Tapeta seller.

Has plenty of form here including a win over C&D and he looked as though he bounced back to form last time after a couple of poor runs. Finished behind Alpha Tauri last time out but is more reliable than that one although this mark looks a little high.

Not one to rely on and can be slowly away but was suited by the strong pace and how the race panned out when winning here in January over 6f. Appears to have maintained his form from that run although ran too free last time and set the race up for others.

No doubt he showed improved form to win over C&D on his initial run for this yard (claimer ridden) in handicap company. Well backed returned to the novice sphere last time over 6f he failed to cope with a useful rival; return to handicaps may help.

Has won off this mark over C&D in a lower grade and hasn't been disgraced of late over a mile here although all those runs have come in what looks to be easier company. On balance he'll need more to take a hand here given his recent form.

Forecasts

Bold Spirit (11/4), Alpha Tauri (11/4), Luath (9/2), Essential (9/2), Chaucer's Tale (13/2), Maazel (8/1), Captain Bob (8/1), Tellovoi (9/1)

Verdict

A race not exactly brimming with progressive types and quite a few are hard to trust such as Alpha Tauri and Tellovoi although neither are easily written off as they are both C&D winners. Bold Spirit acts well here but looks a little high in the handicap with the jury out on a couple that disappointed here on Tuesday in Chaucer’s Tale and Captain Bob. ESSENTIAL returns to handicaps and he may well have run into a useful type on this surface last time; he’s given the vote in this weak handicap.
  1. Essential
  2. Bold Spirit
  3. Chaucer's Tale
