Took a couple of attempts to break her career duck for this excellent young trainer, but was off the mark in a 1m4f seller at Southwell on Friday (6L winner). After attracting no bids, she returns quickly under a 6lb penalty in another weak event.

Had various trainers in a low key career (15 race Flat maiden, but is a 2m hurdle winner). On the premises from this sort of mark in each of his last two starts, including over C&D, and must be considered in this grade.

Won a 1m Nottingham maiden for Richard Hannon in 2016, but hasn't set the world alight since. Now 0 from 10 on synthetics, and faces a significant hike in trip today.

Now a 12 race maiden with plenty of Chelmsford experience banked. Placed over C&D latest, but finished 7L behind Canford Thompson, so that's not really good enough.

13 race maiden who has struggled to find any noteworthy form since switching from France. Races from a career low mark, in the lowest grade of handicap, but comfortably beaten when presented with a similar task at Kempton recently.

Plenty of shots, but still to hit the target, remaining a maiden after 21 career starts. Stays, and has placed form from higher marks in the past, but only of interest in the first time blinkers if the market speaks positively.

Veteran who is an eight time winner under National Hunt rules (hurdles rated 106). 0 from 9 on the AW, and most unlikely that he has the required attributes to change that; beaten 12½L by Volturnus over C&D earlier this month.

Successful on the Flat in France back in 2013/2014, but fairly lightly raced in recent years, with just a trio of poor hurdles efforts recorded since November 2015. Worth a try back on the Flat, but you'd be purely speculating.

Shown no worthwhile form since early 2016, and that came over sprint trips. Now a 14 race maiden, and that'll almost certainly be 15 after this race.

Finding her feet at a lowly level for this trainer (formerly trained in France). Runner up over C&D earlier in the month, finishing ½L in front of Helium, but unfortunately for her connections, that was 12L behind the easy winner Volturnus.

Forecasts

Avocet (15/8), Canford Thompson (7/2), Torch (8/1), Reason To Believe (8/1), Too Many Shots (8/1), Royal Hall (10/1), Helium (12/1), Gee Sixty Six (14/1), Victorian Teo (25/1), Sandacres (25/1)

Verdict

With all due respect to connections, this rates as a rather dismal looking contest. Therefore, it's best not to overthink things, and focus purely upon those horses in form. Canford Thompson fits that bill in one respect, but his sole career success came over hurdles at Wetherby in October 2016 when just about gifted the race at the start. Therefore, we'll stick with Friday's Southwell winner AVOCET. She didn't appear to be the most straightforward mare in the world despite scooting clear, but she's with a fast emerging trainer, and has the right man aboard in the shape of the AW 'King' Luke Morris if a persuader or two needs to be delivered.
