Started his career last year with some nice performances over further. Form has dropped off since and he's easy to discount despite a drop in class and a falling mark.

3-55 but two of those wins have come here. All his successes have been over 5f but he is below his last winning mark and drops into this grade for the first time.

2-31 on AW tracks but has gone well here on his last two starts. Latest effort was better than it looks given the rider was almost unseated leaving the stalls. Drops to this grade for the first time and a prime contender.

Picked up a second career win when dropped into this grade for an apprentice race on Friday. Went close the following day when raised in class and trip and is yet to be reassessed.

A 2-56 is not the most convincing of profiles, but he arrives in form and having been placed on all three previous runs in this grade. Has been running on fibresand lately but effective on this surface and should be thereabouts.

Off the mark when dropped to a career low rating and getting a good pace to race off. Well drawn for a repeat off just 3lb higher and there are enough in this who like to press on.

Has something to find with La Fortuna on Chelmsford running and not as well drawn as that rival here. A 2-55 record and an inexperienced rider are further reasons to oppose. Cheekpieces tried for the first time.

Has run better than he was entitled to at the weights in a couple of four-runner conditions races here over 5f. Hard to trust the form and the larger field over an extra furlong add further doubts.

Last win came in November 2016 off 21lb higher. Form has nosedived since, but he should at least run better than last time with the headgear back on.

Without a win for two years and out of form lately. 6lb wrong in the weights and easy to oppose at present.

Slowly getting the hang of things in four AW starts, without exactly looking progressive. Back up to 6f and likely to be up on the pace but will need to find a little more in the finish to make breakthrough.

Clergyman (11/8), Frank The Barber (5/1), Noble Deed (6/1), La Fortuna (8/1), Major Assault (12/1), Swift Fox (12/1), Blistering Dancer (14/1), Taurean Gold (16/1), Justice Rock (25/1), Head Space (25/1), Secret Asset (25/1), Louis Vee (50/1)

Verdict

It should pay to stick with those who have shown some form lately. Clergyman potentially faces his third race in four days. If his trainer feels he is up to it then he would be hard to overlook over the same trip and off the same mark as when successful on Friday. La Fortuna was successful in this grade last time and another strongly run race seems likely. Blistering Dancer has been in good form at Southwell but he has proved himself on the polytrack too and he has run well enough in this grade to earn serious consideration. However, marginal preference is for NOBLE DEED who was not beaten far last time given the issues he had at the start. His previous C&D effort, when again unlucky, would be more than good enough to land this.
  1. Noble Deed
  2. Clergyman
  3. Blistering Dancer
