Useful enough handicap chaser on his day but wins have been hard to come by this year. This trip on the short side as well and despite another drop in the weights after another moderate effort, is hard to fancy.
In good form when last seen, winning at Exeter (form franked) and then bumped into a well-handicapped one at Hereford. Trip and ground fine and if fit after a short break, ought to be on the premises.
Made a good impression on chase debut at Musselburgh, making all and jumping well. Had race in the bag when nearest rival crashed out, 4lb rise for that more than fair and with the promise of more to come, looks a big player.
Sprung a 25/1 surprise at Lingfield in December but has since reverted to type, pulling up at Taunton and finishing tailed off at Wincanton last time. Ability clearly there but hard to know what side of bed he's got out of today.
Rattled off the wins last year but has found life harder form new handicap mark since, and most disappointing when made favourite at Fontwell last time, barely going a yard. May want better ground and on that, is passed over.
Has been well placed to win four of his last five starts, not always the most fluent at his fences but it doesn't stop him. Needs more again here and yard going through a bit of a sticky patch at present, so no good thing to follow up.
Well into the veteran stage, pops up now and again when allowed his own way up front but mistakes still litter his runs and needs to bounce back from a moderate effort at Hereford last time.
Yet to win in 10 starts and despite new headgear being given a go recently, it has made little difference and he blew out as a well-backed favourite at Fakenham last time. May be capable of better but can only be watched at present.
Had shown little but did a bit better at Plumpton last time, finishing within shouting distance of the winner and sticking to it late. Step up in trip may help and capable of challenging for places if it does.
Forecasts
The Last But One (5/2), Brown Bear (4/1), Fergal Mael Duin (9/2), Stoical Patient (9/2), Sonoftheking (11/2), Cap Horner (8/1), Oakidoaki (8/1), Moneystown (16/1), Spock (20/1)
Stoical Patient has been racking the wins up but it's been hard work at times, and he might find it all catching up with him soon. THE LAST ONE won with plenty of authority at Musselburgh and can follow up here. Sonoftheking could go well if freshened up by a break and at a likely bigger price, Moneytown is worth e/w consideration as well.
