A much improved performer since switched to synthetics and upped in trip in low grade handicaps. A 6L winner over the extended mile at Wolverhampton latest, but this is more competitive, and he has an extra 4f to cover.

Derby entrant by Nathaniel (25,000 gns yearling) who sluiced up by 12L when making a winning C&D debut last month (maiden auction). Contests a stronger race with a penalty, but tough to oppose on that showing with further improvement likely.

Once raced Teofilo gelding who changed hands for 105,000 gns as a yearling. Slowly away and appeared very inexperienced on that occasion, but truthfully needs to leave that effort well behind in order to trouble a few of these runners.

Cheap purchase (1,000 gns yearling) who looks devoid of ability, and couldn't be considered here despite tackling a new trip.

Well related colt whose dam Everglades was a 1m2f+ winner. Shaped respectably on debut at Wolverhampton (1m4f) just under a fortnight ago when finishing just over 5L third to Sophie Gray. Further progress anticipated.

Out of a Montjeu mare (Je T'Adore), she's worth a try over this kind of trip. Showed improvement on her second start at Kempton last month when a 3L runner up to impressive winner Artieshow.

Forecasts

Perfect Illusion (11/10), Technological (2/1), River Glades (9/2), Mary Elise (10/1), Lucky Lover Boy (33/1), No Equalisers (100/1)

Verdict

Both Mary Elise and Technological tackle this longer trip for the first time, whilst River Glades will surely have drawn plenty from his recent Wolverhampton debut, but it's virtually impossible to oppose the striking 12L C&D debut scorer PERFECT ILLUSION. That success might well have come in a weaker race than today's but there was no optical illusion as to his raw untapped potential, so this Derby entrant by Nathaniel should make it 2 from 2 with further improvement considered highly likely.
  1. Perfect Illusion
  2. River Glades
  3. Mary Elise
