Tries this longer trip for the first time following a short break since his last start (had a wind operation). Pays his first visit to Newcastle, but is 2 from 3 on Tapeta over an extended mile at Wolverhampton. Tough task.
$350,000 yearling who got the ball rolling in blinkers when upped to this trip at Chelmsford latest; beating Tabernas by ½L. Stable has a tremendous strike rate at this track, and he figures prominently on the short-list.
Turned over at short odds on both starts since winning snugly at Kempton in December (1m). Excuses for his latest defeat; met trouble in running, but should stay this trip (dam a half-sister to Penglai Pavilion).
Galileo colt who cost €80,000 as a yearling. Disappointing on debut at Newmarket in July (7f), but has been given plenty of time off to strengthen since, and he should have an awful lot more to offer over this longer trip.
His trainer does well with his runners at this track, but this colt needs to produce much more than he has done so far in order to be involved. Well beaten by a stablemate of Native Appeal when last of four over 1m4f here latest.
Half-sister to four winners, including Irish 1m AW scorer Glassatura. Lacked the required nous and strength to be involved on debut at Southwell last month (1m), and this step up in trip mightn't ideally suit her.
Unraced fifth foal by Champs Elysees out of the Group placed 5f winner Sharplaw Star. Looks the pick of the stables pair on jockey bookings, but will need to be sharp to score on debut. Closely related to German 7f winner Tap Your Toes.
Forecasts
Native Appeal (15/8), Culpability (9/4), Guvenor's Choice (7/2), Strictly Magic (7/1), Stirling Value (16/1), Jetstream (20/1), Pretty Moi (25/1)
John Gosden has a 40% strike rate (17 from 43) with his runners on the Tapeta at Newcastle, and CULPABILITY looks more than capable of improving on those already fine figures despite facing stiff opposition from Native Appeal. The selection was a winner (in blinkers) when upped to this trip at Chelmsford last month, beating the Charlie Appleby trained (Godolphin owned) Tabernas by half a length. Godolphin seek their revenge here with Native Appeal, who shouldn't be knocked despite being beaten at short odds the past twice. He should stay this 1m2f trip, and was unlucky in running latest, but the narrow vote nevertheless goes to the Gosden trained representative.
- Culpability
- Native Appeal
- Guvenor's Choice
