Well below form when last seen at Brighton over a mile on heavy ground when it looked like the effects of the blinkers had definitely worn off. Given another chance on this surface after running here once before when looking to need the run; others preferred.
Makes his Fibresand debut at a fairly advanced age with his sire having a poor record on the surface. In good form over the summer at Beverley (slightly longer trips) but returns from a break now 3lb above his last winning mark.
A C&D winner the majority of his runs on this surface have been respectable although he needed the run on his last start here. Won a fairly weak extended mile handicap at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start (not in the same form last time) and has won here off a mark of 60.
Form over C&D reads well (1133) with his last start here showing that while he still has ability and acts on this surface he does come with his quirks. Slow away on that occasion he soon became detached before closing late on; chance on best form but clearly not straightforward.
Both runs here haven't really given much hope for his prospects here and the first-time hood that he wore here last time is now dispensed with. Very slow away on that occasion over 6f his previous try over the trip here wasn't any better; hard to fashion a case for him.
Caused a big surprise when winning over C&D in first-time blinkers off a lowly mark of 46 in December (made all). Three runs here since have not really shown her to make any further progress although she does step back up to a mile here after two efforts over 7f.
Seven previous runs on Fibresand have failed to reap a reward and he's never looked a natural on the surface. His penultimate run at Chelmsford flashed up that he may return to form soon but he failed to back that up at the same venue last time out.
Needs no introduction around here and is making his 113th start at the track (15 wins). Still capable of springing a surprise if he's in the mood and they go a strong gallop (now off a basement mark) and can't be totally ignored for all that he's looked laboured of late.
Remains a maiden and will continue to do so while he turns in performances like he has of late. Finished well held when last seen over C&D and beaten 16L in this grade.
Only has a mark of 45 and her two runs here in maidens have shown very little aptitude for the surface. Now comes back to what may be a more suitable trip after running over 1m4f last time but hard to fancy even in this lowly company.
This will be his first experience of the Fibresand (handicap debut) having shown only glimpses of ability on turf as a juvenile at up to 7f. Connections are shrewd though and the sire does have a 13% strike-rate here; well worth watching in the market.
Forecasts
Bib And Tucker (4/1), St Patrick's Day (9/2), Sooqaan (11/2), General Tufto (6/1), Outlaw Torn (15/2), Tilly Devine (8/1), John Caesar (10/1), Rolling Dice (16/1), Quick Monet (25/1), Dusty Bin (25/1), Zarkavon (200/1)
Only a low-grade affair to start the card off and in a race that lacks quality it may be worth taking a chance with the sole three-year-old in the field BIB AND TUCKER. He didn’t show much as a juvenile but his connections have been known to land a gamble or two around here and he could well be better than his lowly mark of 52 with his sire having a decent record on Fibresand. Not many if any of the others offer anything like solid or progressive form although Sooqaan has won off a higher mark (60) here in the past. St Patrick’s Day still looks as though he has ability if he can get away on level terms while course specialist General Tufto can never be totally written off on his favourite surface despite looking his usual laboured self of late.
- Bib And Tucker
- St Patrick's Day
- Sooqaan
