Modest form when fourth in a Flat maiden for Martyn Meade in February and hasn't shown anything in two starts over timber for this handler to warrant support now.

Poor maiden on the flat, has had four quick runs over hurdles and shown signs of poor temperament. Latest was pulled up at Warwick (2m, good to soft) 16 days ago. Hood added now which could see him to better effect.

Fairly modest maiden on Flat for Stan Moore, sent off a big price and never appeared likely to defy it at Fontwell (2m1½f, good) in early October. Plenty to work on for now.

Well held on sole French outing at Compiegne in April (for these connections) but this Soldier Of Fortune gelding should prove plenty better than that and is one to pay attention to on British racecourse debut off a break.

Poor maiden of seven on the flat and last in all three starts for this yard before falling (when beaten) on hurdles debut at Warwick (2m, good to soft) earlier in the month. Watch with caution for now.

Winner on the AW at Chelmsford in February, albeit in lowly grade, didn't cut much ice on jumps bow at Huntingdon (2m, good) this month but could improve in what looks a weak contest.

Didn't show a lot on the Flat last year, switches to hurdles for new yard after 361 days off and new handler does well enough with hurdlers, though 0-14 at this track over the last 12 months.
Showed very little on the Flat finishing well beaten on five starts starting at big prices, similar tale on jumps bow at Wincanton last month (sent off 150/1) and unable to pose any threat.

Forecasts

Mercenaire (10/11), Harbour Force (3/1), Seaborn (13/2), Hold Me Tight (7/1), Poet's Charm (12/1), Dandy Walk (20/1), Zillion (33/1), Eggesford (33/1), Dartmoor Girl (50/1)

Verdict

A juvenile contest in every sense, with hurdles form hard to come by. MERCENAIRE didn't show much on his only start in France but trainer Nick Williams is adept with his type of performer and it won't cause any shock if he performs much better on his British bow. He will not need to be out of the ordinary to land this. Harbour Force has shown some signs of poor temperament and will need his new hood to help, while Seaborn and Dandy Walk are potentially worth noting in this company.
  1. Mercenaire
  2. Harbour Force
  3. Seaborn
