Possible the ground had gone against him when finishing last of seven at Goodwood in September;; but had a previously unblemished record after two wins at Newcastle last winter. Might have needed the run latest, so still worth a betting check.
Outclassed in a Listed race at Ascot in October but is usually consistent at this level and would be dangerous to rule out. Stiff test under a penalty for last week's win at Wolverhampton though.
Won twice over 1m here but off since June and looks weighted to the limit just now. Might improve for the first-time headgear but plenty to prove back over this trip now he's a little older. (Only ever won a claimer over 7f when a three-year-old.)
Highly rated but looks flattered with just one win in a handicap and another when an odd-on shot in a conditions race last October. Only one run since being gelded and now with another new yard. Best watched.
Won at the Shegar Cup meeting at Ascot last year but struggled to find his level since. Kept mainly good company though and possible he'll appreciate the return to this surface. Never won over this trip though, so comes with risks attached.
Events conspired against him when well behind Gulliver at Wolverhampton latest and a concern he's only raced twice since July. Still, he is effective over C&D and has a top jockey booked in his bid to turn the tables. Has to be of interest.
Obviously suited by racing in cheekpieces as he's 3-3 so far. Has shot up a long way in the ratings as a result bt the form of his latest win has already been boosted, so feasible he's still got a little left to offer. Heads the shortlist.
Forecasts
Gulliver (11/10), Hakam (7/2), Brittanic (7/1), Chevallier (10/1), Early Morning (12/1), Bumptious (12/1), C Note (20/1)
Hard to get away from the fact that GULLIVER has thrived since being asked to race in headgear and, with lady of the moment Josephine Gordon doing the steering, the portents look good for another bold effort. Hakam could well be a thorn in the side of the selection if he stays out of trouble this time, while Early Morning also appeals as a potential spoiler when the best of his turf form is taken into account.
