Tough and consistent sort whose only win in three starts on the AW came at Wolverhampton as a juvenile. Has to prove he stays this trip, but if he does he has to enter calculations.
Quite light-raced sort who has displayed a similar level of ability on turf and the AW. Has been well held on his last two starts and might be a shade high in the handicap at the moment.
Last win came at this track 14 months ago, but has fair form to his credit, including a good fourth in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. Races off 1lb lower and has obvious claims if able to replicate that effort in a first-time tongue tie.
Winning hurdler who is returning from a break since racing over timber in April. Capable on the Flat, but this looks quite a stiff handicap mark for him to defy.
Defied this mark when winning a 1m6f handicap at Wolverhampton in April. Not at his best returning from a break last month, but should be fitter now and stable is going well. Wears a tongue tie for the first time.
Thorough stayer who won over 1m6f off 5lb lower at Nottingham two starts ago. Out of the frame on two previous AW starts, but it is too soon to say she dislikes such surfaces.
On a massive losing streak. Indeed, his last victory came in the 2014 Chester Cup. Has fallen down the weights, last two efforts have been better and further encouragement can be gleaned from his record of 1-2 on the AW. Well capable if in the mood.
Three-times winner on turf who now dips his toe into the water on the AW. Close second at Newbury off 2lb lower a couple of starts ago and has a chance if in the same form.
Has shown good form at this track over 1m4f and 1m3f on two of his last three starts and his higher handicap mark looks manageable. The big doubt is his ability to last out this trip. Every chance if doing so.
Forecasts
Royal Reserve (3/1), Lord George (7/2), Rock Steady (11/2), Soldier In Action (6/1), St Mary's (13/2), Suegioo (10/1), Every Chance (14/1), Boite (25/1), Continuum (25/1)
An open stayers' handicap which may go to bottom-weight ROYAL RESERVE, who clearly likes this track and may be able to beat his rivals for speed if staying this trip. Should he not have sufficient stamina, the one to pick up the pieces could be Lord George, who need only reproduce his Northumberland Plate effort to have every chance in an open contest. Top-weight Soldier In Action and Every Chance are also likely to be thereabouts, while there is no doubt Suegioo is capable of going close off this mark.
- Royal Reserve
- Lord George
- Suegioo
