Hardly a frequent winner and that tempers enthusiasm but he did come back to form with a third at Redcar last time over 6f. Has won over C&D and back on the same mark that he won off then.
Only one win to show from 26 starts but has been placed on four of his five starts here and back from a break here without his usual tongue-tie. Holds no secrets from the handicapper though and may well need the run.
Placed on his only previous visit here over 7f he is effective over this trip (three-time winner at 6f). Ended a long losing run on his penultimate outing at Chepstow off a 4lb lower mark but predictably wasn't in the same form last time.
Really found his form earlier in the year with three wins over C&D the last in a higher grade than this and off a 5lb higher mark (kept on gamely each time). Found life tougher after that but took a step back in the right direction last time.
A winner here on his first try on the surface back in February 2016 (dam also won on the surface) he's only had one unsuccessful try since. Inconsistent and will be better for his recent return and of interest back on this surface.
Has shown plenty of good form here (five-time course winner) and acts over this trip very well. Slipped back down to just below his last winning mark and will be a lot shaper for his recent run here over 5f back from a break.
Usually a bold front runner who makes his debut on this surface by a sire who has an 18% strike-rate here. Ridden in his usual way when successful at Catterick (course suits him well) off a 6lb lower mark in September; ran poorly last time though.
Previous try at this track was disappointing and his losing run is starting to stack up now. Ran a creditable race last time on the Tapeta but no guarantee that he'll back that up here with the surface still a question mark.
A winner on her first start here over 5f she's had seven unsuccessful attempts here since and ran poorly over 5f on turf last time. The handicapper continues to give her a chance but this 6f trip does appear to stretch her.
Sole victory came over C&D and has also been placed here. Worse off at the weights now with the runner-up Tasabooq ; won easily but can he follow-up?
Placed three times here from seven starts he looked suited by the strong pace when runner-up on his penultimate start to Bingo George. Has done all his winning on Tapeta though at Wolverhampton and a place may be the best he can hope for again.
The inside stall doesn't help the dual course winner here although from 5lb out of the handicap he doesn't face an easy task in any case. Slow start did for him last time here over 5f and a repeat of that would spell disaster here.
6lb out of the weights won't make this an easy task for this dual course winner who hasn't really shown anything worthwhile in form terms for fair while. Plugged on here over 6f last time but in reality even this is too tough a task.
Forecasts
Bold Spirit (5/1), Big Amigo (11/2), First Excel (13/2), Bingo George (13/2), Unnoticed (8/1), Fantasy Justifier (8/1), Ticks The Boxes (9/1), Corporal Maddox (11/1), Tasaaboq (14/1), Sarabi (16/1), Fortinbrass (20/1), Wimboldsley (40/1), Interchoice Star (66/1)
Not an overly appealing race as a betting medium but FORTINBRASS generally runs well here and will have appreciated his recent pipe-opener over 5f here. Big Amigo looks as though he is working his way back to form and given that he acts on the surface he’s respected and he’s one to look for coming off the pace. First Excel and Bingo George both need to step up on what they have done here recently but the latter won well last time and can’t be ignored even off this higher mark. One of seven C&D winners in this Ticks The Boxes is another who could make a mark especially as he’s slipped back down to his last winning mark.
- Fortinbrass
- Big Amigo
- Bingo George
