In severe danger of going the wrong way with the losing run starting to get longer and longer. Often slow away and has refused to race and one to be very wary of and makes little appeal here.

Looked to be in the right mood when weaving his way through the field to win on the AW over 6f and that way if riding him appeared to keep him interested. Not quite in the same form since and the blinkers are now reached for.

Long time since his last turf win and all his recent victories have come on the AW although he shaped as if he was coming back to form last time over 6f at Yarmouth. May take another step forward but has to overcome a wide draw to do so.

A career record of 0/15 probably sums him up and although he's run with credit in handicaps he doesn't really looks like winning one. Has been held off this mark the last thrice and a likely to face a similar scenario here.

Proved himself over 6f last time out at Wolverhampton in a similar contest and actually travelled well in the race and only narrowly beaten. Has won once before off this mark and would have had a better chance but for a wide draw.

Twice successful here (once over C&D) he needs to get back to the form that he showed in mid-summer over 5f here to take a hand in this. Not shown much zip of late though and often gets behind in his races.

Returns to the course very quickly after a creditable effort at Redcar over 6f yesterday although he never really got close to the first two. His style of racing may not be suited by racing here though and only has a place chance if he runs.

Course winner over 5f at the backend of last season following up a previous Yarmouth win with both victories coming with cut in the ground. Recent runs have only been modest though and he went with little fluency last time out.

Very quirky character who can travel well at this level but doesn't always go through with his effort. Managed to win earlier in the season in emphatic fashion but had looked typically awkward of late; will win when he wants to.

His main positive is that he is more unexposed than all of these and he did show something in very modest handicap on his debut in that sphere over 6f. Now tried on turf again off a basement mark although the draw makes life difficult.

Unsuited by the drop to 5f last time out at Wolverhampton this 6f should suit her better. The fact remains though that she is yet to win a race but has shaped better than her finishing position on her last two starts.

Pacy sort who likes to go from the front but generally does too much too soon and was well below form when returning from a break last time. Blinkers go on for the first time but his overall record isn't a convincing one.

Forecasts

Redrosezorro (9/2), Robbian (9/2), Cool Strutter (5/1), Jorvik Prince (9/1), Commanche (9/1), Tellovoi (12/1), Le Laitier (12/1), Firesnake (12/1), Lackaday (14/1), Excellent World (16/1), Snow Excuse (16/1), Whipphound (25/1)

Verdict

An uninspiring end to what is a decent card overall and the last race of the 2017 Flat season at Catterick. Hardly any of these have convincing profiles and it’s not a contest you want to be having to rely on to get out of trouble. The first-time blinkered Firesnake may well be of some interest if he can weave his way through this field from off the pace with the unexposed Snow Excuse another who might be a little better than he’s shown so far. Commanche is likely to be seen to good effect on the AW this winter but should make an impression here although the wide draw isn’t ideal. Cool Strutter enters the equation if he turns out again quickly and his stablemate Jorvik Prince would have been of interest also with a better draw. In the end a chance is taken with EXCELLENT WORLD who has yet to win a race but in a new headgear combination may well be able to build on the promise she has shown in her last two starts which are better than her finishing positions shows.
  1. Excellent World
  2. Firesnake
  3. Commanche
