Admirable servant to his veteran trainer and something of a Goodwood specialist. Goes well for today's rider but a 6lb rise for a narrow win last time makes this a tough ask.
Handles soft conditions and arguable that it was the company, rather than conditions, that accounted for him on his last two starts. Probably better on quicker ground and from this mark he needs all the help he can get.
Went up 5lb for landing a lower grade event three weeks ago and looks held by Pettochside judged on his next run. 2-3 here though and looks set to give his usual honest account.
Has produced some good performances this season and notably when accounting for an in form rival two months ago. Weighted to reverse recent placings with Pettochside and highly effective with give underfoot.
Suited to plenty of give and was a winner in May off 2lb higher. Out of his depth last time, but prospects are a lot better than his form figures would have you believe.
Without a win for two years and 17 starts. Did not look ready to win any time soon on his last start two months ago.
Has faced some stiff tasks since his sole success as a juvenile. Ran a big race last time when facing a difficult task in a conditions event and surprisingly the handicapper has dropped him further. Has to be of interest in this company.
Likes to get his toe in and the slower Kempton track has been a lucky track for him. Should handle these conditions but shorter trip is a concern.
Readily won an Ayr maiden (6f, good to firm) in May, but went lame when well beaten on his only start since, when sent off as favourite from today's mark. If he returns to the track back on song then he would have claims.
Improved on his Windsor debut to score at Newmarket (7f, soft) in July. Had 2L to spare there over a horse who won his next two, including a handicap from a mark of 79. Drop back to 6f is a worry.
Has gone two years without a win and unable to turn things around this term despite a falling mark.Visor now tried but profile makes him unattractive.
Acts well on easy ground, having won on debut at Doncaster (6f) and then held by just a nose at Ffos Las. Beaten favourite on his last two starts and keeps being nudged up the weights, but his ability to get through this ground could be key.
Drops back to this trip having failed to get 7f on last two starts on soft ground. Just 2lb higher than her latest success and has an obvious chance on that form.
Won twice in 2015 but inconsistent and couldn't get in the winner's enclosure in 2016. Shaped encouragingly at Goodwood on penultimate start and on a very fair mark if running to a similar level.
Forecasts
Alaadel (9/4), Baron Bolt (7/2), Clear Spring (7/1), Dark Magic (10/1), Pettochside (12/1), Gin In The Inn (12/1), Finelcity (16/1), Repton (20/1), Moonraker (20/1), Smokey Lane (25/1), Storm Cry (25/1), Dalton (40/1), Huntsmans Close (40/1), Francisco (50/1)
Pettochside is in good shape right now and continues to defy the handicapper. The form book indicates he has work to do in order to confirm Goodwood form with Baron Bolt. Paul Cole's charge should also be seen to better effect on this more galloping track and he looks set to deliver another bold show. Storm Cry takes the eye now dropping back to 6f but preference is for REPTON. It is possible his latest effort flatters him, but the handicapper has dropped him further in the weights. This looks his easiest task for some time and the jockey booking signals intent.
- Repton
- Storm Cry
- Baron Bolt
