Smart chaser who performed very well in the Cross Country races last season, given his trainer no surprise if he's aiming for those very prizes again and may have this as a bridge in that direction.
Lightly-raced but potentially smart seven-year-old, has left Harry Fry to join this handler and no telling what the plan will be in the months ahead. Betting may disclose more on what is expected for stable bow.
Above average hurdler, not disgraced in graded contests in the spring and, while poor on reappearance over fences at Limerick this month, could be a different proposition now.
Ended last term with a rock-solid showing in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham, goes well fresh and has the benefit of a handy spin at Punchestown last week in a charity contest to sharpen him for this full return to action. Major player.
Has so far proved better over fences than he was over hurdles, though that still leaves him with something to find against the best of these. Pulled up last month on reappearance over fences at Listowel and tough ask in this field.
Winner of a couple of minor handicap hurdles (latest in May), has been struggling in both disciplines of late and doesn't make significant appeal back over the smaller obstacles.
Winner of a Limerick maiden hurdle on heavy ground in March 2016 over 2m5f. Has struggled more recently and pulled up last month reappearance at Listowel. Plenty faith needed at the moment.
Consistent performer last term for Jessie Harrington, ended term on rare off-day at Punchestown but capable of getting involved on these terms if stripping fit on return.
Hasn't done a lot in five runs over fences/hurdles since mid-May and hard to fancy now switching back to this sphere in a competitive race of this nature.
Well beaten and no impression in last four starts and will need to turn things around significantly to take a hand here.
Form is a bit patchy now but looked progressive earlier this year, impressively landing a handicap over 3m at Gowran Park in June off rating off 117. Career-best may be required to land the prize.
Prolific point-to-point winner with just a single score to his name from 11 outing under rules. Major shock on the cards if he can take a leading role in this contest.
Forecasts
Monksland (8/11), Lieutenant Colonel (6/1), Oscar Sam (6/1), Polar Present (7/1), Charmix (14/1), Shanpallas (16/1), Cantlow (25/1), Montys Meadow (33/1), Top Of The Town (33/1), Notwhatiam (50/1), Mr Picotee (66/1), Carrigeen Acebo (100/1)
MONKSLAND looks the one to beat, he goes well fresh as a rule and will just have had his senses sharpened by last week's spin around Punchestown in a charity contest on the Flat. His run in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham makes him the standout and it won't be any surprise if he shows his well-being by taking this. Lieutenant Colonel is no mug and should leave last month's disappointment over fences behind. If he can do that, he'll stand out as the chief threat to the selection. Charmix starts for the first time since moving to Gordon Elliott's yard and is intriguing is such while the consistent Oscar Sam is also capable of getting involved.
- Monksland
- Charmix
- Lieutenant Colonel
