Picked up from David Lanigan for 12,000 gns in July, and has twice went close for new connections. Travelled eye-catchingly smoothly when repeatedly denied a clear passage over 7f here latest (fourth to Rock Warbler) and can make amends.
Never had the pace to get involved on his AW debut last month (7f), so probably worth trying over a longer trip, but with the caveat that both of his turf successes came over 6f.
A winner on his ninth career start at Catterick last month (7f good to soft) beating Vive Le Difference by ½L. Back up in trip (stays) for his AW debut, and races from a 7lb higher mark.
A dual synthetics scorer for previous trainer Roger Varian (7f) in 2015, but regressed as a three-year-old for that trainer, and has shown nothing in 2017 since joining this stable for 22,000 gns. Dropped 17lb in the weights this year.
Both career successes have come with cut at Ayr (7f and 1m1f). His most recent success came just last week when beating Dellaguista by 1¼L (heavy), and he's turned out quickly for his AW debut under a 6lb penalty.
Slowly away and unable to get involved on his handicap debut at Beverley last month (1m½f soft). Deserves another chance, but his AW mark is 11lb above his turf mark. Wears first time cheek-pieces. Stable does well with runners at Newcastle.
Ex Simon Crisford. A winner on his stable debut at Doncaster in July (7f maiden soft), he'd not kicked on in handicaps until a fair effort at Ayr last week when beaten under 1L by Rubis (1m1f heavy). AW debut.
Fairly consistent for a number of starts over the summer, strongest over 1m. Still 7lb above his last winning mark and although he is a three time AW winner (elsewhere) he's probably held by Acrux on their latest clash.
Ran his best race since joining current connections for 27,000 gns when beaten a head by Portledge under today's pilot over 7f here last week. Well in (due a 4lb rise in the weights), but this extra furlong is the worry.
Creditable performer at this track, but is very difficult to win with as his career record of 1 in 30 testifies. That sole success came over C&D in March from a 3lb lower mark. Beaten ½L by subsequent winner Cool Team over C&D in September.
Been around the block in terms of trainers, and won a couple of 1m2f handicaps for Garry Moss here last winter. Finished sixth to Cool Team (Newmarket Warrior second) on stable debut over C&D last month and better expected.
An infrequent winner, but is falling in the weights to a winnable mark and is back for another autumn/winter campaign on the AW at Newcastle. Most likely needed the race at Redcar last month (1m2f), that being his first start since February.
Successful from a 1lb higher mark over C&D in January, and generally performs with credit at this track (also won on grass here). Not at his best since returning from a mid season break, but don't discount a revival of fortunes.

Kreb's Cycle (5/2), Acrux (3/1), Newmarket Warrior (7/1), Thello (12/1), Old China (12/1), Wasm (14/1), Chinese Spirit (14/1), Pickett's Charge (16/1), Weather Front (18/1), George Reme (20/1), Hernando Torres (25/1), Never A Word (28/1), Alfie's Angel (33/1), Majdool (50/1)
Plenty of horses to consider in an open handicap including recent winners Old China (Catterick) and Chinese Spirit (Ayr), both of whom are climbing the weights, the latter under a 6lb penalty, and venturing onto synthetics for the first time in their respective careers. Kreb's Cycle is due a 4b rise after running his best race in ages when beaten a head by Portledge over 7f here last week, but this extra furlong is a concern, whilst the devilishly tough to win with Newmarket Warrior was close up behind subsequent winner Cool Team in what looked a strong C&D contest last month. However, ACRUX effectively arrives as a winner without a penalty, given that he'd almost certainly have prevailed with a clear run when finishing a close up fourth to Newcastle specialist Rock Warbler over 7f here last month, and he shouldn't be unduly troubled by the extra yardage tonight.
- Acrux
- Newmarket Warrior
