In good form lately with two C&D wins in the past couple of months. Well held on his latest start at Epsom, though that was probably the heavy ground and he has claims now back here on better ground and 3lb higher than his last success.

Another dual winner here this year, the latest being last month over C&D (good) from 4lb lower. Was beaten just 1½L from 2lb higher than today on his next visit and although well held on his last two starts, the return here can see him in the mix.

Sole success was over this trip at Goodwood (good) last year on his handicap debut from a mark of 77. Held by the handicapper since and no surprise that his best effort this year was when a 1½L second from the same mark. Has a squeak from 1lb lower.

Was proving very frustrating for her followers with a string of placed efforts before finally rewarding them with a win in a Chepstow maiden (7f, good to soft) last time. Now makes a belated handicap debut from a fair mark and can go well.

Improved in all four runs on All Weather tracks for Clive Cox last winter, winning at Southwell (6f) in the last of them. Gelded since and now resumes for different stable after nearly 10 months off, 8lb higher and visored. Market check advised.

Dual course winner, the second of those being over this trip last year from a mark of 61. Has since gone on to better things over 6f, though form has tailed off just lately and he looks in the grip of the assessor for the time being.

Won a 6f selling handicap here (good) last year, though has more recently been in good form over today's trip, winning at Chepstow last month and then Leicester last week, both with cut in the ground. Escapes a penalty for the latter and has claims.

Won a similar C&D contest in May on fast ground, but has been in nothing like the same form since. Has now dropped to a mark 5lb lower than that success, but has finished last in all three runs since being gelded and is not easy to fancy.

Loves it here and has racked up five course wins from 6f-1m, all when there has been good in the going description. No coincidence that his best run this season was when 1½L runner-up over 6f here in August and from 1lb lower he is not ruled out.

Prolific winner over the years and recorded his first one at this venue over C&D last time out, when readily accounting for his 13 opponents. Up 6lb for that success and given that he has never won from this high on turf he is taken on this time.

Forecasts

Spinnaka (9/4), Wahaab (5/2), Black Caesar (4/1), Procurator (9/1), Good Luck Charm (12/1), Baltic Prince (16/1), Soaring Spirits (20/1), Pour La Victoire (25/1), Mister Freeze (33/1), El Torito (33/1)

Verdict

A tough race to call, with plenty of exposed course specialists in the line-up, but the suggestion is WAHAAB, who escapes a penalty for his recent Leicester success, acts on a sound surface and also has winning form at the track. Black Caesar should be capable of better now back here and the same can be said of fellow topweight Good Luck Charm. Procurator, Spinnaker and Pour La Victoire also enter calculations, while a market check is suggested to gauge any confidence in the return to action of Mister Freeze.
  1. Wahaab
  2. Good Luck Charm
  3. Black Caesar
