Has his first run on the Flat for well over two years having been running okay over jumps in the meantime. Has run well on the level in the past but has had long enough away from this sphere.

One of the more experience runners in the field who hasn't yet been able to find enough to win a maiden but went close over C&D last time out. Connections persist with this route and clearly believe he is capable of winning such an event.

Beaten 62L into last of twelve at odds of 100/1 on Flat debut at Lingfield last time out. Needs to show something completely different in first-time cheekpieces.

With The Flow filly who makes her Flat debut here having failed to particularly impress in bumpers; over 5L behind Rosie Lea at Newton Abbott in August.

Manduro filly, a half-sister to a few winners including one placed at Listed level. Won a Newton Abbott bumper over the summer but this represents a different test.

Three thirds so far over 1m2f, every chance he will stay this far but needs to progress again in order to mount a serious challenge to the key players.

Air Quest colt, the first foal of an unraced dam who was a half-sister to a couple of winners. Pedigree not too informative but this seems a suitable starting point.

Not fully convincing since sent handicapping and returns to maiden company here; not discounted given he should stay this far and has shown he has ability.

Two starts at this course so far and was much more convincing over C&D last time out, but still needs to find more in order to prove competitive here.

Couldn't justify odds-on favouritism at Lingfield last time out but raced too keenly in the early stages. Considered here if he's able to settle better.

Beaten 54L into sixth of seven on debut in July. Off since and needs to leave that form behind him in order to figure here now stepped up in trip.

Beaten 14L on debut at Epsom last time on heavy ground. Up in trip here and is entitled to do better racing on a synthetic surface for the first time.

Well beaten over shorter at this course on debut last month. Pedigree suggests he may well get further but needs to improve for the longer trip.

Forecasts

Stanley (15/8), Soghan (4/1), Fearsome (11/2), War At Sea (8/1), Hadfield (8/1), Rising (10/1), Warm Oasis (16/1), Nevalyashka (20/1), Perfect Art (33/1), Mr Boycie Quest (50/1), Rosie Lea (50/1), I Should Coco (100/1), Bombay Rascal (100/1)

Verdict

It may pay to side with experience here and STANLEY is the one who appeals most. Richard Hughes' gelding has gone close in a number of similar events to this and sets the standard on the basis of a very close second over C&D last time out. A repetition of that level of form would surely see him go close up against several unproven rivals. The Qatar Racing pair of War At Sea and Fearsome, in that order, are preferred next having shown enough to suggest they can be competitive at this level.
  1. Stanley
  2. War At Sea
  3. Fearsome
