Good progress last season - epitomised by his seventh of fourteen in the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham when last seen. Possible he may need the run but stable in cracking form with a near 33% strike-rate in the last fortnight. One to bear in mind.

Poor completion profile of late but did manage to win a novice hurdle on heavy ground at Plumpton last January. Not seen since falling at Newbury in March and comes here with something to prove.

Form took a dip earlier in the year and possible the handicapper's leniency can help him get back to winning ways. Poor effort at Market Rasen last month does suggest he's not one to place maximum faith in just yet though.

Back to hurdles after a handful of decent efforts over fences. Very well treated in comparison to his chase rating and dangerous to underestimate on these terms. Ground conditions being likely to suit a further bonus.

Won races at Bangor and Ludlow but hit with a 12lb rise, which was a possible reason for his below par effort at Newbury when last in a handicap. Good effort in a Listed race latest, bodes well for this return to this level, though. Shortlisted.

Ex-French gelding who managed a win in the provinces before coming over to join his powerful yard. First two starts for the Nicholls team create the impression he's a work in progress and may just need more time to acclimatise to British racing.

C&D winner back in April but put up 9lb for that win and well held when last seen at Haydock. Plenty to prove in a competitive race and others more appealing.

Good form so far and reputation not too tarnished when pulled up in a hot race at Cheltenham last December. Left that behind him since and already off the mark in handicaps. More to come and has potential to overcome 6lb higher mark. Sound claims.

Best effort came when winning a novice hurdle at Doncaster in February but been below that level three times since. Drop in trip possibly in his favour but still has plenty to prove just now.

Stable usually bang on the button with its French imports but this fellow wouldn't be one of the most spectacular to have arrived by that route. Two previous starts for 'Team Henderson' need to be improved upon and others make more appeal.

Managed just one win for Mouse Morris but was well backed on debut for his new yard. That proved to be a fruitless bid and the gelding has plenty on his plate in trying to redeem himself in this company.

Not won since his novice season in 2014 but posted one of his better efforts latest at Uttoxeter. Place claims if able to dish out a repeat dose but this is a good bit tougher and he has a stern challenge ahead.

Verdict

A tough one to call as a 'shortlist' is hardly an apt description for those capable of winning on the pick of their form. The likes of Discours D'un Roi and Cyrname have yet to run up to their form in France but represent two of the most respected yards in Jumps racing, so have to merit a check in the betting; while the first time tongue-tie may well tip the scales in favour of Oldgrangewood, who reverts to hurdles on a handy enough mark to make it as one to bear in mind. I'm A Game Changer would also be dangerous to ignore if the betting casts him in a good light. However, MISTERTON has a little more scope than a few of the rest and could be the one with the most potential. He edges the narrowest of votes as the one to side with on this occasion.
  1. Misterton
  2. Discours D'un Roi
  3. Oldgrangewood
